Chapter 482: Bon As Of Bonwire
Leo glanced back at Naelith and Lyswenna.
"So she tried to cut off your ears and even unleashed a fireball skill to ruin your faces?"
"Yes, My Lord. She is the one who tried to harm your personal property. I merely acted in defence, so you wouldn’t have to look at an ugly face beside you every day," Lyswenna replied with a sly smile that was only visible to Naelith and Leo.
The manager raised a brow in interest because Lyswenna had replied very cleverly. This completely shifted the matter out of their hands and onto Leo, meaning the elves themselves couldn’t be held accountable for whatever actions they took. And since it was Leo who had technically allowed them to use their powers, even if the elves carried out the deed, it was, in a sense, Leo doing it.
And Leo wasn’t a slave, so charges couldn’t be held against him for a simple act of self-defence; rather, the entire blame fell upon the attacker.
"And you, girl..." He turned towards Hilda.
"On what grounds were you trying to attack my maids? From what I can see, they were quietly shopping for their necessities, and you accused and tried to harm them out of nowhere. How dare you? Explain yourself, or deal with the consequences."
Suddenly, Hilda felt the pressure crushing her body disappear as she staggered a few steps back, breathing heavily.
"W-what are you talking about?! You are their master, and you allowed them to use a mind-control skill to make it seem like they paid the shopkeeper and bought things you call necessities?!"
Leo frowned.
"Mind control? It would have been another thing if I had allowed them to do it, which I haven’t. But they don’t even possess a skill like that of any sort..." He tilted his head slightly.
"Are you trying to accuse me now?"
He didn’t wait for her answer and instead turned towards the manager.
"Are you the manager of this shop?"
"Y-yes, I am," the manager quickly replied.
"Didn’t your employee inform you that my maids paid the full price for whatever they bought? Then what is this stupid scene for?"
"No, no! I know they paid the price, and my employee even showed the money. But this lady keeps insisting otherwise." He signalled to the shopkeeper, who once again brought out the gold coins for everyone to see.
The moment the shopkeeper revealed them, Hilda immediately spoke again.
"See?! So many gold coins! No slave would have that much money on them. It is clearly the elves manipulating the shopkeeper’s mind into believing those already existing gold coins were paid by them!"
"And you said they were buying necessities! You clearly didn’t send them to buy vibrant beast feathers just to adorn their bodies. Not only did they cheat the shopkeeper, but they also dirtied the feathers by touching them with their bodies. See?! They even hid them away so you wouldn’t notice. They are fooling you too! You are simply a careless master."
Leo turned towards the two elves, and they immediately took the feathers out from their spatial ring.
Leo raised a brow. They indeed looked good and would suit them well.
"My Lord, we are your property, and in order to uphold your dignity, it is an absolute necessity for us to look good. We simply thought these feathers would do the job. And we bought them with the 200 gold coins you gave us as an allowance. In total, they cost 29 gold coins, and after buying everything else, we still have more than 150 gold coins left."
Hilda’s expression turned hideous upon hearing that. She couldn’t believe her ears.
The surrounding crowd sucked in cold breaths after hearing the elves’ words.
200 gold coins as allowance for slaves?! God damn!
Even the manager was stunned. He had seen a fair number of wealthy people due to the nature of his business, but he had never seen anyone give 200 gold coins as allowance, let alone to slaves.
Even a Count like Ashton Ember wouldn’t give that much allowance to his own blood.
Leo simply turned back towards Hilda. At this point, he was getting genuinely annoyed. This woman was clearly just jealous and trying to show off her superiority.
Pain in the ass...
"See? They were only buying necessities." He glanced over Hilda’s figure once again.
"How would a person wearing clown-like makeup even know..." he muttered under his breath, yet nearly everyone around still caught the words as laughter burst through the shop.
Hilda’s face turned burning red with embarrassment and fury, though whether it was from anger or her fire element acting up was questionable.
"Y-y-you! How can anyone believe such absurdity about 200 gold coins as allowance for slaves?! You are obviously bluffing! There’s no way that’s possible! Even I--"
Hilda abruptly stopped herself, because revealing her own meagre monthly allowance of 10 silver here would only humiliate her further.
"Well, if you’re poor, you cannot afford to call other people’s facts a bluff. So get your head straight."
Leo briefly considered having Naelith and Lyswenna show the pouch of remaining gold coins, but decided against it. That would be stooping too low when he wasn’t even in the wrong.
He simply turned towards the guards, who had only been watching the drama unfold, their bodies stiff under Leo’s commanding presence.
"You people, what kind of guards are you? Believing random nonsense and trying to apprehend innocent people. Should I contact your superior?"
"N-no! We couldn’t properly judge the situation and only acted on what appeared to be true. We are sorry."
"It’s good that you are. But don’t you know what you should be doing right now? That woman dared to frame innocent individuals for stealing, tried to harm them, accused their master of wrongdoing with baseless claims, wasted the precious time of busy officials, and risked burning down this private establishment filled with expensive commodities. Go arrest her."
"Yes!"
All of them responded in unison as they turned their swords towards Hilda.
By now, her friends had already disappeared into the crowd, leaving her completely alone.
Hilda suddenly panicked. She was cornered like a rat.
"S-stop! I am Hilda Bon Ember! You cannot arrest me!"
