Chapter 356: Elder Huo’s schemes

"What? There is no way that he would ask someone like her to be his consort!" Huo Qing refused to accept that the prideful Rong Xian would even look at someone like Ruan Chanchan. That woman did not even have a totem core; she could not even shift into her beast form. How could a person like that even win the heart of the prince of the tribe? It was impossible!

Elder Huo sneered coldly. He said in a low voice, "You are a fool if you think that it is impossible. If you come out of the training ground, then you will be able to see that there is more to the world than just fighting and pinning your opponent to the ground."

"You think that you can just swagger in front of the prince and he would accept you no matter what? Don’t be too complacent! The prince is not the kind of person who would let you play him. If you are not sincere, then you can forget about getting him. The prince will never pay attention to you in this lifetime if you do not take the chance to make him imprint on you."

Elder Huo was worried that his daughter would not be able to understand the importance of the situation and said to her, "You believe that just because you are the strongest totem warrior of the tribe, the prince will have no choice but to choose you. I say that you are an idiot. The prince is stronger than you; if he wants to take someone else as his consort, then he could very well do that. Do you think that he would listen to you?" Elder Huo was furious just thinking about how this foolish daughter of his could not see through things. Did she think that the prince was someone who would chase after her and even propose to imprint on her? No! Unless she took charge, there was no way that the prince would even care about her.

He breathed heavily and then said to his daughter, "I am not your enemy, Ah Qing. Naturally, I will never allow someone to harm you or let anyone snatch what belongs to you. I am trying to be helpful. If you listen to me, then you will at least be able to get the prince. If you do not listen to me, then I am worried that you will end up losing what is important to you."

This was the only way he could make his daughter realise that there was no point in acting hard to get; even if she were to pretend that she was not interested, the prince was not like any other mer whom she could play around with without showing any signs of settling down. However, his daughter was silly enough to believe that as long as she played hard to get, she would be able to win the heart of the prince.

"Then what do you want me to do?" questioned Huo Qing with a frown on her face. "Do you expect me to lower my stance in front of a mer? That simply won’t do! I cannot accept such a thing; after all, it’s usually mers who chase after women whom they fancy. How silly will I look if I were to go ahead and chase after a mer? I would be embarrassed to death."

Huo Qing had no intention of chasing after a mer; if others saw her acting like a simp, she was worried that they would say that she had no backbone left in her body and was flattering a little mer. If that happened, how would she be able to face her subordinates? They would definitely mock her for acting all haughty and then sucking up to the prince.

How many times had she told her subordinates that she would never chase after the prince, and if she chased after him all of a sudden, wouldn’t everyone say that she was a liar? She did not want that to happen!

"Huo Qing, have you lost your damn mind?" Elder Huo was speechless. He knew that his daughter had always believed that women were much superior to mers, but he never expected that one day he would regret bringing her up like this. It was the fault of his mate; that woman was such a pompous woman that she taught all kinds of bad things to their daughter. Now he was the one who was suffering.

He sucked in a breath when he saw that his daughter was looking dissatisfied. He closed his eyes and then said in a low voice, "You need to understand that Rong Xian is ultimately a prince. No matter what, his status is different from the rest of the mers in the tribe. Do you think that you can use the same standards as the ones that you use with the rest of the mers in the tribe with him? Of course not. He is a prince, and his mother is the queen of the tribe. Your father, on the other hand, is just a small elder with basically no powers at all. Do you think that the prince would chase after you, of all people? I have only a few words for you, and those are – you are dreaming! There is no way the prince would even think about chasing you. You’d better think those things through."

Elder Huo had grown tired of his daughter’s attitude. He had told her again and again that she needed to change her tactic and start chasing the prince, but she had never, not once, listened to him. Now that Rong Xian was slowly getting interested in Ruan Chanchan, Elder Huo only knew one thing, and that was if his daughter did not pick up her slack, then there was a very good chance that the mer might slip out of their grasp if they were not careful.

Huo Qing’s face turned green when she heard the words of her father, but at the thought of the prince choosing someone else, she pursed her lips and then reluctantly asked, "What do you want me to do?"
