Chapter 10 Only Tactics Win People's Hearts
Chapter 10 Only Tactics Win People's Hearts
Belvina Black realized she had been tricked.
This whole scheme was accomplished with her help; the real me was digging my own grave.
It's too late for regrets. Instead of regretting, she should try to come up with a way that satisfies both parties: to refuse to go to Hogwarts and to maintain her relationship with Connery Fudge.
Silence filled the office as Belvina racked her brains, and Fudge didn't let his mind rest either.
The minister knew all too well that his seemingly easy-going subordinate was actually a stubborn mule. The best way to deal with a stubborn mule was to stroke it gently; the more forceful the attitude, the more counterproductive it would be, making the situation even worse.
After a while, Fudge spoke again, but he didn't mention Belvina going to Hogwarts again. Instead, he talked about someone else.
"Do you know Quirinus Quirrell?" Fudge asked tentatively. "He used to be a Muggle Studies professor at Hogwarts, a very bright Ravenclaw."
pat.
That was the sound of a word breaking on the ground.
Belvina, who was spoiled and arrogant, softened her expression slightly, but she still refused to speak, expressing her dissatisfaction with silence.
"Ahem... well, Quirrell was doing a good job in this position, but he left Hogwarts last year." Fudge, having been turned away, continued, "The problem is, he's back this year!"
"The Minister is trying to tell me that the root cause of Hogwarts' problems is Professor Quirrell's return," Belvina said, arms crossed. "So it's all Professor Quirrell's fault, and has nothing to do with you, a mere Bronze Nate, right?"
Yep!
Ahem, Cornelius Fudge is the Minister for Magic; how could he possibly shirk responsibility? He's not shirking duty; he's stating the facts. I'm sure of it!
"I'm not trying to shirk responsibility, I'm just stating the facts." Fudge's gaze darted away, betraying his guilt. "I'm simply telling you the whole story, the whole sequence of events."
Fudge continued against his conscience, "Tell me, Quirrell could have just come back to Hogwarts and continued being his Muggle Studies professor, but instead he suddenly applied for the Defense Against the Dark Arts position."
Ok?
Is Ravenclaw really that brave?
While others would avoid him, this person eagerly sought to confront him head-on; he's a ruthless individual.
"You know, Defense Against the Dark Arts is far more important than Muggle Studies, and for the well-known reason, it's difficult to find a suitable candidate," Fudge continued. "Albus has no reason to disagree with this application."
If Belvina and Dumbledore were to switch roles, she would also agree to Quirrell's job change request.
One is an elective course, and the other is a required course. The elective course is related to Muggles, so it's obvious which is more important.
"But Dumbledore hasn't found a professor for Muggle Studies?" Belvina asked. "Since he can't find anyone, why not just cancel it? There aren't many students for the course anyway, and the content has little to do with real Muggle society. Cancel it; I suggest you cancel the course. You have that authority."
The Muggle Studies class at Hogwarts is a course resisted by many pure-blood wizarding families, even though their offspring would never choose it.
More importantly, the course content is mostly from a wizard's perspective, filled with wizard arrogance and prejudice. It fails to help young wizards understand real Muggles, and this arrogance and prejudice will only make young wizards look down on Muggles even more.
Wizards from Muggle families do know more about Muggles, but their energy is too weak to make a sound.
"Albus won't agree to cancel the course; he thinks it's necessary for children to learn more about Muggles," Fudge said with a bitter face. He had also suggested canceling this unimportant elective.
"So you recommended me?" Belvina asked. "Even if I went to teach at Hogwarts, what could I teach them? Study the uses of rubber ducks in class?"
Belvina paused for a moment, then adjusted her tone and continued, "Minister, I am a Black, a Black who graduated from Slytherin."
Am I being too approachable, so that everyone forgets I'm Blake?
Is it because I showed favoritism towards non-pure-blood wizards that everyone forgot I am one of the Twenty-Eight Holy Families?
That's what Belvina thought, but that wasn't her real reason for refusing to go to Hogwarts.
Even though Belvina is now a pure-blood wizard, it doesn't change the fact that she was once a Muggle. She doesn't discriminate against Muggles, much less against wizards from Muggle families. There's only one reason she doesn't want to go to Hogwarts—Albus Dumbledore. Belvina has always considered Dumbledore an extremely dangerous person.
Perhaps influenced by the marketing accounts from her previous life, or perhaps by the subtle influence of the Black family, Belvina's first impression of Dumbledore was absolutely terrible—a scheming schemer full of evil intentions.
But Belvina quickly overturned this label, and as she gained a deeper understanding of wizarding society, she began to see Dumbledore as a great wizard, a man who had transcended vulgarity.
Such people are often the most terrifying. Belvina's resistance to Dumbledore was an instinctive resistance, a behavior driven by the instinct to seek advantage and avoid harm.
“Minister, I am a Black. My family has always upheld pure-blood supremacy, and our family motto is ‘Forever Pure, For ...
This was the first time Belvina had felt so fortunate, fortunate that most of her family members were crazy purebloods.
If the suggestion to cancel the course is not adopted, then use family reasons to decline the invitation; after all, everyone knows which side the Blake family is on.
Cornelius Fudge, who was digging a hole with his small shovel, fell silent. He hadn't expected any of this, much less that Belvina would react so strongly, even in a way that was unlike her usual self.
“Okay, I admit I was being inconsiderate,” Fudge said in a deep voice. “But you’re different from them, Belvina. You’ve never discriminated against any non-pure-blood wizards in the ministry, you’ve never taken sides for anyone who attacked Muggles, and you’ve done a great job on the Muggle Mediation Committee and the Office of Misinformation, and you know a lot about Muggles.”
Cornelius Fudge didn't continue. He had already made himself clear—Belvina was not a pureblood, her family's influence on her was negligible, and Belvina Black had her own thoughts and her own way of dealing with the world.
It was precisely because of Belvina's impartial attitude and her outstanding performance in the Department of Magical Accidents and Disasters that Cornelius Fudge immediately thought of Belvina when Dumbledore mentioned that Hogwarts needed a Muggle Studies professor.
In addition, Minister for Magic Fudge has his own ideas, which require Belvina's help to come to fruition. Belvina is the only person Fudge can truly trust within the Ministry of Magic.
"Belvina, do you want to know the real reason I recommended you to Hogwarts?" Fudge suddenly became serious, as if his previous attempts to shift blame and his pitiful demeanor were all an illusion.
The real reason?
Belvina quickly came up with a possibility, but she dismissed it even faster.
Even now, Dumbledore still receives letters from Fudge frequently, suggesting that the two are still in the honeymoon phase. Fudge shouldn't have become wary of Dumbledore so quickly.
"Belvina, can I always trust you?" Fudge asked, his expression still serious, but a hint of pity flashed in his eyes.
Merlin!
Why do I keep getting asked this kind of question lately?
