Chapter 154 I'm almost driven mad with anger

That evening, the Ministry of Magic hosted a reception for the recipients of the Order of Merlin's medal, which was a great success, and the guests enjoyed themselves immensely.

In the brightly lit reception hall, a huge crystal chandelier refracted a dreamy light, melodious music soothed the soul, and fragrant wines were intoxicating.

There was more than one medal recipient at the party, but Belvina was the center of attention because she was young and beautiful, because her surname was Black, and because she was highly regarded by Fudge and Dumbledore.

As the most glamorous one in the room, Belvina was naturally the busiest person tonight. She had to deal with everyone who came up to talk to her, and her fake smile was flawless throughout.

These people who strike up conversations each have their own thoughts and ideas. They speak eloquently, but their hearts are full of shady schemes.

The orphan of the noble, oldest Black family, a synonym for wealth and status, highly regarded by two great figures, such a person would be sought after anywhere.

The older generation wanted to win over the young Belvina, establish a good cooperative relationship, and seek longer-term development.

The younger generation wants to win Belvina's heart, pluck this unattainable beauty to adorn their hair, and gain both love and wealth.

Some people were extremely envious and had to make a few sarcastic remarks to feel better. They said that Belvina was a traitor to Black and a betrayer of pure-blood wizards.

Boring, utterly boring, Belvina actually felt a growing aversion to the fame and fortune of the Ministry of Magic.

As the banquet drew to a close and the night deepened, the guests dispersed, and the brightly lit reception hall gradually became quiet.

Belvina was finally able to rest for a while. She casually found a carved armchair to sit down, raised her hand to loosen the bun at the back of her head, and let her long, smooth, black hair fall down, covering her long, white neck.

Felix Ferguson stood to the left of the carved armchair, arms crossed, legs straddling, expressionless, looking like a bodyguard.

After a while, Bob Gordon came over with a glass of chilled orange juice and handed it to Belvina, who was rubbing her cheeks.

Both of them were brought to the party by Belvina. Bob Gordon had been with her for many years, while Felix Ferguson was someone she had personally promoted. Both of them carried the label of "Miss Black".

Belvina kept rubbing her cheeks; after the party, her face was almost stiff from smiling, her cheeks were flushed, and her eyebrows and eyes showed signs of intoxication.

At this moment, Amelia Burns, the head of the Enforcement Division, walked over. Ms. Burns was fair, honest, and exceptionally talented, and was one of the most powerful wizards in the British Isles.

Belvina and Ms. Burns had known each other for many years, but they had no interaction outside of work; their relationship was purely that of colleagues.

"I'm sorry I'm late, I didn't even have a chance to congratulate you," said Ms. Burns. "The Order of Merlin, First Class..."

Congratulations."

As Ms. Burns spoke, she sat down in the ornate armchair next to her. She wore a monocle and always had a serious, intimidating expression.

"Thank you, Amelia," Belvina said, taking off her earrings as she spoke; the earrings were so heavy they hurt her ears.

Bob Gordon returned with another glass of chilled orange juice, placed it next to Ms. Burns, and then stood behind Belvina without saying a word.

"I really admire the First Class Medal. It can clear away a lot of obstacles," Ms. Burns said. She and Belvina have very different styles of doing things, but that doesn't stop them from appreciating each other.

Ms. Burns walked every step with integrity and uprightness, always standing firmly in the spotlight, letting others judge her. The Burns family has always been this upright.

Belvina, on the other hand, has a completely different style. While Cornelius Fudge is the one who steps into the limelight and enjoys immense fame, Belvina hides in the shadows, untouched by the storms of life.

"There's something I have to tell you," Ms. Burns said after a moment's thought. "It will ruin your whole evening, but I have to say it."

Ms. Burns' tone was incredibly serious, and the light reflected from her monocle seemed to say: This is no small matter. "You may not believe it, but every word I'm about to say is true," Ms. Burns continued. "Sirius Black has escaped. He's escaped from Azkaban."

Felix, standing nearby, was horrified. How could someone have escaped from Azkaban, especially the infamous Sirius Black? What would happen to Miss Black?

Bob Gordon, on the other end, felt a chill run down his spine. He, who remained at the Public Information Service, had received no further information.

He knew nothing about this, but he was well aware that Sirius's escape would definitely involve Belvina.

"I know this is hard to believe, but Sirius Black has indeed escaped," Ms. Burns said. "The news just got back to the Ministry, and Merlin's beard! He's gone mad!"

That's absolutely insane!

Belvina is furious!

Last year, Belvina wanted to overturn the verdict, but Sirius refused to budge.

This year, Belvina temporarily put the matter aside, but Sirius suddenly broke out of prison. Who did he think he was, Shawshank?

It wasn't that Belvina was confused by anger, but rather that life is always full of misunderstandings, just like how she thought Shawshank was a person's name and Bu Lianshi was a type of soldier.

"Sirius Black, he escaped." Belvina repeated softly, the drunkenness in her eyes completely gone. "He actually escaped from Azkaban."

Ms. Burns nodded. It was already troublesome enough that a serious criminal had escaped from Azkaban, but this person was Sirius Black, the one who destroyed half a street and killed thirteen people with a single spell.

Belvina repeatedly gathered her long, dark hair, trying to force herself to remain calm, but she really couldn't calm down now; she even had thoughts of killing Sirius.

She said, "If I find him, I will tell you immediately, Amelia. But before I hand him over to you, I will break his legs and his arms."

These are hardly blood relatives; they're more like enemies.

"Calm down, Belvina," Ms. Burns said. "I know this is bound to affect you, but please stay rational, okay?"

Ms. Burns's attitude was clear: whatever Belvina wanted to do, she should not cause trouble for the Enforcement Division or interfere with their arrest plan.

Belvina let out a long breath and said calmly, "You might not believe it, but I'm really calm right now. It wasn't me who let him escape; they can't possibly arrest me, can they?"

Although Belvina is Sirius's younger sister, the Ministry of Magic is unlikely to arrest her because of that relationship; at most, they would ask her to cooperate with the investigation.

The Belvina of today is no longer the rookie who just entered the Ministry of Magic. Anyone who wants to cause her trouble will have to think twice about whether they can withstand her retaliation.

While Belvina and Ms. Burns were talking in hushed tones, Connelly Fudge returned to the reception room with a grim face, accompanied by Barty Crouch and Dolores Umbridge.

Belvina stood up, her pure white evening gown strikingly eye-catching, and Cornelius Fudge quickly noticed her.

"Belvina!" Cornelius Fudge said anxiously. "Amelia's here too," Fudge continued to Belvina. "Then you should already know that Sirius Black has escaped from prison."

Belvina nodded and said, "Yes, Minister, Amelia just told me. I will fully cooperate with you and Amelia to bring the escaped criminal to justice as soon as possible."

"Ahem," Dolores Umbridge said in a high-pitched voice, "It's a pleasure to see you here, Belvina."

"I'm not happy to see you at all, Umbridge." Belvina frowned in disgust, making no attempt to hide her loathing for Umbridge.

Having worked at the Ministry of Magic for so many years, Belvina has been easy to get along with most of the time. She is very popular within the Ministry and is also very polite to the waiters in the reception area.

But Dolores Umbridge was an exception; almost everyone knew that Belvina hated her.

Many in the department believe that the reason Belvina did not choose to join the Department of Law Enforcement is because Umbridge works in the Office for the Prevention of the Abuse of Magic.
