Chapter 188 Patronus
Countless Dementors suddenly appeared around the field, closing in on the students in a dark mass.
The chill penetrated the students' very bones, the icy fog blurred their vision, and thick darkness instantly enveloped the sports field.
In the darkness, more and more Dementors appeared from all directions, surrounding the entire stadium; some slid towards the stands, others soared into the air...
The wind was still fierce, but it forgot to roar, as if someone had turned off the volume and everyone had become deaf.
The next second, screams and cries erupted all at once, the continuous screams and cries assaulting everyone's eardrums.
Some students fell to the ground, some were at a loss, and some tried to run away. The stadium stands instantly became extremely chaotic. Even if the Dementors did not remove their hoods, the panic they brought to the students was still very dangerous. The crowded stands seemed to be on the verge of a terrible stampede.
Fortunately, the crowd in the stands wasn't just students; Belvina, who had already sensed something was wrong, raised her wand high.
"Protect Me!" Belvina chanted the spell, and her acacia wand drew a circle above her head, flashing with silver light!
A holy, silver guardian appeared in the stadium stands. The dazzling cow cat was several times larger than before, and looked as majestic as a tiger descending from the mountain.
The silver guardian nimbly and swiftly flew past Belvina, silently darting across the stands, charging menacingly towards a large group of Dementors, one claw at a time, unstoppable.
"Protect the Gods!" Bassheda's voice rang out from the stands, and a cloud of silver smoke spewed from the tip of her wand.
Another holy, silver guardian appeared in the stadium stands; it was an adorable dwarf, as bright as the moonlight.
The guardians rushed to the cow-and-cow cat's side immediately. The guardians of different shapes fought side by side, creating a safe haven for the panicked students in the stands.
However, there were simply too many Dementors around the stands. The Guardians managed to drive away one group of Dementors, only for another group to surround them like a city wall.
The helpless students could already feel the Dementors' breathing, which clung to them like a malevolent wind. The Dementors also made guttural noises that terrified the students.
Fortunately, Belvina and Bassheda are not the only faculty members who can summon guardian spirits.
"Protect God!" Professor McGonagall shouted angrily.
A holy, silver-white tabby cat joined the fray. The tabby cat had a ring of eyeglass-shaped markings around its bright eyes, almost exactly like Professor McGonagall's Animagus form.
"Protect God!" Paul Bernard shouted back.
The holy, silvery-white albatross soared into the sky, its wingspan of over ten feet scaring away the swarming Dementors. The albatross was as trustworthy as its summoner.
Snape, his face grim, reluctantly chanted the spell. Silver smoke billowed from the tip of his wand. Soon, a thin silver mist gently fell, drifting and enveloping a section of the stands. Though it was only as thin as paper, the Dementors could not break through this thin barrier.
Silver light flashed in the stands around the stadium, and holy guardians kept driving away the filthy Dementors, who retreated, scattered, and disappeared into the darkness.
The Dementors' frenzied attacks eased somewhat, but the darkness surrounding the stadium remained as tangible as a physical entity, impossible to dispel or dispel.
Suddenly, music drifted in from somewhere, ethereal and mysterious.
The silver phoenix-shaped guardian deity spread its wings and swept across the entire stadium, its song inspiring and its cry terrifying the Dementors.
At the same time, Belvina raised her wand high again, the tip of the acacia wood staff pointing straight to the sky.
The silver guardian in its cow-cat form seemed to sense something and stopped its attack, flanked by silver guardians on either side, single-handedly blocking the Dementors' frenzied counterattack.
Belvina's eyes were resolute, her voice gentle, as she softly murmured, "Protector of God!"
Instantly, holy, silver ripples spread out like waves, continuously impacting the surrounding Dementors with the cow-cat-shaped guardian as the center.
How long it lasted—perhaps seconds, perhaps minutes, perhaps centuries—the penetrating chill subsided, the stench of decay disappeared from the air, and the guttural groans of the dying were no longer heard…
The sky was overcast and gloomy, and the wind, rain and thunder returned. The autumn rain, which should have been cold, brought a touch of warmth to the students. The Dementors that had surrounded the sports field had finally disappeared.
As the students' consciousness gradually returned to their bodies, they suddenly realized that they had left the stadium and returned to the warm castle, to the even warmer common room.
As if they were all under a spell of forgetfulness, most of the students did not remember how they got back, nor did they want to recall the terrifying memories that happened on the court.
The school hospital on the second floor of the castle was overcrowded. Some students were frightened and needed Mrs. Pomfrey's care, while others had colds and fevers due to the bad weather and also needed care.
There's also Harry Potter in the VIP section of the school hospital. The boy, without his wand, endured the attack of the Dementors alone. The terrifying memories caused him to lose consciousness and fall from a great height.
If Dumbledore hadn't intervened in time, Harry Potter would have become a Harry Potter fan.
However, Harry's Nimbus 2000 broomstick wasn't so lucky; a strong wind carried it to the Whomping Willow.
The man who was being attacked, Liu, smashed him to pieces.
Meanwhile, a meeting of deans was being held in the president's office, attended by Professor McGonagall, Professor Sprout, Professor Flitwick, and Snape.
In the comfortable circular room, Belvina sat out conspicuously next to the four Deans. This was her first time attending a formal meeting, and also the first time she had seen Dumbledore so enraged.
Even with a soft carpet in the principal's office, it couldn't prevent the silverware and glassware from shattering.
Dumbledore was extremely angry, and in his rage he lost his composure and accidentally smashed a few ornaments.
This was the first time Belvina had ever witnessed a woman's hair standing on end in a fit of rage.
"We must lodge a strong protest with the Ministry of Magic," Professor McGonagall said angrily, her usually meticulously styled hair now disheveled, a few stray strands obscuring her eyes.
"I agree with Minerva; we must do something," Professor Sprout said angrily. "The Dementors can no longer remain at Hogwarts; they are too dangerous!"
The usually kind and amiable Headmaster Hufflepuff was now furious, his gentle smile seeming like something from a distant past life.
The thin, frail Professor Flitwick sat in his armchair, his feet dangling a foot off the ground. He shrieked, "The Ministry of Magic must give us an explanation! Students have been injured! All because they trusted those damned Dementors!"
The three heads of the department all expressed their intentions, either to protest to the Ministry of Magic or to demand an explanation from the Ministry, all because of Cornelius Fudge's muddle-headed decision.
The Dementors, who were supposed to be guarding outside the school, couldn't resist the temptation of the students gathering on the sports field. The atmosphere around the field was too tempting, and the dirty, greedy, and dark Dementors simply couldn't resist it.
This was Belvina's biggest worry: out-of-control Dementors storming the school and causing injuries and deaths among students.
Now, the Dementors have stormed onto the sports field and are attacking students indiscriminately. Fortunately, no students have died, and only a few have suffered minor injuries from bumps and knocks.
"And Mr. Potter, Harry Potter!" Professor McGonagall exclaimed angrily. "He fell from hundreds of feet, nearly dying from the fall because of a Dementor attack!"
As the head of Gryffindor, Professor McGonagall naturally wanted to seek justice for the injured Harry.
It wasn't just because Harry was the boy who survived the ordeal, nor just because James and Lily were both Professor McGonagall's favorite students, but also because of Harry himself.
"That's right!" Professor Flitwick exclaimed. "Harry Potter almost died because of Dementors! I must be having an April Fool's joke!"
At this point, Snape said in his lazy, annoying tone, "There's no need to mention Harry..."
"Potter, huh—" Seeing that the three heads of the house were looking at him, Snape continued, "What I mean is, since Mr. Potter didn't die, it's better to avoid trouble."
Professors McGonagall, Sprout, and Flitwick glared at Snape, and it's likely that Professor McGonagall was already thinking about giving Snape a good beating.
What often happens to students has actually happened to the four deans. Belvina can only say they deserve it. Why did Snape have to go and contradict them at a time like this? Why doesn't he just publish a magazine?
Although Belvina felt that Snape deserved to be glared at by the headmasters, his words were not without merit.
The boy who survived is already remarkable enough. The fewer troubles Harry has, the better he can grow, and the further away the corrupt and incompetent Ministry of Magic is from him.
"Belvina, what do you say?" Dumbledore said, the centenarian finally calming down and no longer fuming.
"Everyone knows I hate Severus, but I think he's right," Belvina said. "It's better to avoid trouble and not let the Ministry of Magic focus its attention on Mr. Potter."
Belvina had one more thing she didn't say: don't let the infighting among adult wizards involve the students.
Belvina always felt that Fudge had ulterior motives. Sending Dementors into Hogwarts was ostensibly to capture Sirius Black, but in reality, it was to test Dumbledore's limits.
Disappointingly, the rule-abiding Dumbledore took a step back, and Cornelius Fudge's little trick succeeded.
After Belvina finished speaking, the two Slytherin graduates formed a rare united front, and Belvina also received glares from the three Headmasters.
It wasn't that Professor McGonagall and the other two were clueless; rather, they valued Harry too much and lost their composure for a moment.
"Belvina, go to the Ministry of Magic in my place and make sure you convey my message to Fudge," Dumbledore said calmly, though his anger had not subsided and still burned fiercely in his blue eyes.
Belvina stood up, put her right index and middle fingers together on her forehead, and playfully waved them forward.
"I will not fail you, Professor," she said.
