Chapter 195 Approaching the Truth
Belvina rushed back to school at lightning speed, hurrying across the pristine white grounds and heading towards the warm castle. The snowflakes falling on her head gradually melted, slowly wetting Belvina's long hair and her clothes.
Ignoring the damp feeling in her hair, Belvina rushed up the marble stairs and headed straight for the library.
If you want to find the Daily Prophet from the summer holidays, the Hogwarts library is the only place to go.
The library collects each issue of the newspaper and binds and organizes them every six months or a year.
The library was deserted on the weekend; upperclassmen had all gone to Hogsmeade Village, while lowerclassmen mostly stayed in the common room.
There are no exams before the Christmas holidays, so who would want to go to the library at a time like this?
Librarian Irma Pins sat listlessly behind the desk, holding a feather duster in her hand, her eyes vacant.
A sudden sound of footsteps startled Mrs. Pince, who stood up abruptly, her lifeless eyes sharpening.
Without saying a word, Belvina hurried past, leaving Mrs. Pince with only her swift and decisive back view. She went straight to where the old newspapers were stored, without any hesitation.
Belvina quickly found all the newspapers published in July of this year by the Daily Prophet.
Belvina vaguely remembered that the newspaper article about the Weasleys winning the lottery was from July, but she couldn't recall the exact date.
Before long, Bassheda entered the library carrying her cloak.
She first chatted with Mrs. Pince for a few words before walking over to Belvina and watching her close friend frantically flipping through old newspapers.
"What did you find?" Bassheda asked in a low voice. "Why did you suddenly leave everyone behind and run back alone?"
"Look at this." Belvina pushed the newspaper she was holding towards them. "A Ministry of Magic employee won a big prize. Did you find anything interesting?"
Bassheda took the old newspaper, an issue of the Daily Prophet published at the end of July, and unfolded it to read:
A Ministry of Magic employee wins a major prize: Arthur Weasley, head of the Ministry of Magic's Office for the Prevention of the Misuse of Muggle Items, wins the annual Daily Prophet award.
The grand prize is Galleons.
Mr. Weasley happily told the Daily Prophet: "—
Bassheda put down her newspaper and said, "So what if Weasley won the lottery? Is there anything strange about it? If you're going to say Weasley is extravagant, I think he's far less extravagant than you."
"Did I tell you to look at the words? I told you to look at the photos," Belvina said reproachfully. "Look at that Weasley family photo below!"
Upon hearing this, Bassheda glanced at the photo.
The Weasley family of nine stood in front of a giant pyramid, all waving enthusiastically.
The tall, thin, bald Mr. Weasley, the short, plump Mrs. Weasley, and their six sons and one daughter all had bright red hair.
No paternity test is needed; all six sons and one daughter are undoubtedly Arthur Weasley's biological children, without a doubt.
Suddenly, Bassheda noticed Ron Weasley.
Ron, tall and thin, had one arm around his sister Ginny, and a mouse was perched on his shoulder.
"A rat?" Bassheda said uncertainly. "You ran all the way back from Hogsmeade just for this newspaper, for the rat in the picture?"
It dawned on me.
Belvina had long said she suspected Peter Pettigrew was not dead, and Lupin also personally confirmed that Peter Pettigrew was an illegal Animagus who could turn into a rat.
But how can we prove that the mouse in the photo is indeed Peter Pettigrew's Animagus form?
Or was Sirius Black asking Fudge for a newspaper because of the mouse in the photo?
Ostensibly, the purpose was to play a crossword puzzle to pass the time, but the real reason was to confirm whether the mouse in the photo was Peter.
A thousand curses surged through Bassheda's mind. How the hell did she recognize this thing?
“I’ve visited Azkaban many times,” Belvina said in a low voice. “Sirius has never shown the slightest thought of leaving.”
"But he escaped Azkaban this summer," Bassheda continued. "You think something prompted him to make the hasty decision to flee, and that newspaper was the decisive factor."
Belvina nodded and continued, "That's right. He couldn't have escaped for no reason; there must be a reason."
When I found the newspaper Connelly had given him, I understood why.
"I still don't understand, how could Sirius Black identify the mouse in this photo as Peter based solely on this picture?" Bassheda said, pointing to the photo. "It looks no different from an ordinary mouse."
Bassheda suddenly stopped talking, picked up the newspaper, and carefully examined the seemingly ordinary mouse in the photo.
After a while, Bassheda suddenly realized again and said, "This mouse is missing a part of its paw. The Ministry of Magic only found a section of Peter Pettigrew's finger back then."
"I think Sirius recognized the mouse first, and then asked Fudge for the newspaper," Belvina said slowly. "Don't forget they grew up together, they should know each other very well, including each other's Animagus forms."
Bassheda stroked her chin and thought for a moment, then said, "He wanted the newspaper to confirm that his judgment was correct. He had determined that Peter Pettigrew was Weasley's pet by observing the rat's severed finger, which is why he wanted to break into the Gryffindor Tower."
Because Peter Pettigrew is Ron's pet, he hides in the boys' lounge in the tower.
"If that's the case, why didn't he come to you for help?" Bassheda asked. "Aren't you a professor at the school? Wouldn't it be easier for you to act?"
Belvina shook her head and said, "How am I supposed to know what that bastard was thinking? Maybe he was afraid my status as a fugitive would implicate me? Why didn't he think of that sooner?"
"Could it be that he thought you wouldn't believe him?" Bassheda said. "The hero who was recognized as the sacrificed actually didn't die, but became a pet mouse to accompany the students. No one would easily believe that."

"
Belvina shook her head again. She said, "No, that bastard knows exactly how I feel, but he still hasn't come to me, as if he doesn't want me involved."
During that chance encounter on Magnolia Crescent Street in the summer, Belvina only felt that the big black dog on the street had a special aura. She was not sure if the big black dog was Sirius's Animagus.
Belvina, who was kept in the dark, couldn't be sure, but how could Sirius not know that the person in front of him was his sister!
Even if Harry was there at the time, Sirius couldn't reveal his true identity or tell the truth, so why didn't he come to find Belvina afterwards?
"No matter what that bastard was thinking, we're very close to the truth of what happened back then," Belvina said, pointing to a photo in the newspaper. "Once we find that pet rat, the truth will come out."
"Wait a minute, if it's Ron Weasley's pet, why didn't we notice it last time?" Bassheda asked. "Professor Dumbledore and Professor Lupin, neither of them noticed it."
In an instant, Belvina's fiery heart turned ice-cold, as if a bucket of ice water had been poured over her head.
Yes, why didn't they find anything unusual about Ron's pet rat when they searched the Gryffindor Tower last time?
Is it that Remus Lupin is unfamiliar with Peter Pettigrew's Animagus, or that Peter has a way of fooling Dumbledore?
"We won't come to a conclusion sitting here," Belvina said. "We should ask Remus and hear what he has to say. And of course, Professor Dumbledore too."
Without hesitation, Belvina stood up and walked towards the control desk, holding the crucial Daily Prophet in her hand.
Upon reaching the counter, Belvina addressed the wary Mrs. Pins, saying, "Irma, I'm taking this newspaper with me. Do I need to register here?"
"Of course you need to!" Irma Pines said matter-of-factly. "Even if you take a single page from the library, you have to register with me so you can return it on time."
"Okay," Belvina said, readily filling out the borrowing application form without emphasizing that she was no longer a student but a professor at the school.
Irma Pines, the librarian, was extremely wary of every teacher and student who entered the library, not to mention elective course professors, even Headmaster Dumbledore.
Within the confines of the library, Irma Pines is everything.
