Chapter 28 Wizards are also a makeshift operation
While Belvina Black was giving her speech, many other things were also happening at the school.
For example, some students skipped classes in the classes of professors like Trelawney and Binns. For instance, Paul Bernard was holed up in his office pulling his hair, and Harry Potter was eagerly anticipating visiting Hagrid's cabin.
At five to three, Harry and Ron left the castle, crossed the fields, and headed for a small cabin on the edge of the Forbidden Forest. Rupert Hagrid had lived there when Belvina was still in school.
Hagrid's cabin was small and dilapidated, with only one room. In the corner was an unusually large bed, and pheasants and hams hung from the ceiling. The copper kettle in the brazier made a bubbling sound.
The arrival of Harry and Ron delighted Hagrid, who immediately recognized Ron as the Weasley's younger brother.
One has to admire the Weasley family's incredible genetics; all seven children have fiery red hair, freckles, and secondhand robes. No paternity test is needed; they're obviously related.
In this little cabin, which was completely different in style from the castle, Harry let go of all his burdens and seemed incredibly relaxed. He loved everything here, except for the rock bread.
The old man Hagrid warmly welcomed the two boys, who shared their experiences from the past few days of school—the pesky warden Filch and his cat, Mrs. Loris, the venom-spraying and difficult Snape, and so on.
Soon, the three men shifted their conversation to women.
Don't misunderstand, the three of them were simply discussing female professors at the school, and there was no ambiguity involved.
"Professor Black?" Hagrid said gruffly. "What's wrong with Professor Black? You're only first-year students, don't you not have her classes?"
While playing with the Neapolitan Mastiff Toothtooth, Harry told Hagrid about the rumors circulating at school about Belvina and her outrageous remarks in class.
On the other side, Ron pretended to love eating rock cakes, and then recounted how they fought with Malfoy on the train, and how Belvina dealt with the situation by giving both sides equal blame.
Hagrid's heart sank. He had always opposed Dumbledore's invitation to Belvina to return to school, though he hadn't voiced his opposition.
In Hagrid's world, he does whatever Dumbledore tells him to do, without needing a reason or explanation. He does whatever Dumbledore needs him to do.
More than the letters piled up in the principal's office, Hagrid was worried. He knew very well what the surname "Black" meant, and he also knew that Belvina and Sirius were siblings. That's why this seemingly careless old man was concerned.
What if Professor Blake is like her two brothers?
What if Professor Blake is also one of that person's henchmen?
What if Professor Black wants to harm Harry?
To this day, Hagrid still dreams of that night in Godric's Hollow, and each dream sends chills down the spine of the burly man.
That night, Hagrid rushed to Godric's Hollow and carried Harry out of the collapsed ruins, whereupon the gamekeeper of Hogwarts encountered Sirius Black.
As James Potter's best friend and Harry Potter's godfather, Sirius Black hoped that Hagrid would entrust Harry to him so that he could raise the infant Harry.
Fortunately, Hagrid didn't hand Harry over. He refused Sirius's reasonable request and headed to Surrey with the infant in his arms. Incidentally, the flying motorcycle Hagrid rode was lent to him by Sirius.
"Professor Black is a good person, and Professor Dumbledore trusts her," Hagrid said uncertainly. "However, she's in charge of elective courses, which you can't access right now, so don't overthink it."
The naive Harry and Ron didn't catch the subtle hint in his words; all they heard was, "Professor Black is a good man."
"Professor Black is nothing like those Slytherins!" Ron said. At this point, he wasn't yet the famous Hogwarts glutton, but his eyes were already glued to ham.
Seeing Harry's puzzled expression, Ron took a moment to explain, "The Black family is a very powerful wizarding family. I've heard Dad, Bill, and Charlie mention it before. They said that the whole family are Slytherins, and they're all under the command of Vader."
As he spoke, Ron's slender body trembled slightly, and even just saying "Mysterious Man" frightened the Weasley's youngest son.
In an instant, Harry's good impression of Belvina plummeted, as fast as a bungee jump.
Children's world is always so black and white; good is good, and bad is bad. They distinguish between good and bad, no matter who they are, and there is no middle ground.
"Professor Black is so friendly with Muggles, just like Daddy is. Daddy would be shocked if he knew," Ron continued. "I heard Professor Black used to work at the Ministry of Magic. I wonder if Daddy knows her."
Yes, of course they know each other. Belvina and Mr. Weasley know each other, but they're not close; their work doesn't overlap much.
Moreover, given how much Belvina had previously hustled around the Ministry of Magic, how many Ministry employees wouldn't recognize her? Besides, Mr. Weasley wasn't exactly a nobody.
Although Mr. Weasley was just a minor official who was not highly regarded, he was very capable at his job, able to draft laws independently, and was also kind and approachable with no airs.
Listening to Ron's words, Harry was confused. He couldn't tell whether Professor Black was a good person or a bad person.
She was a Slytherin, and possibly even a servant of Voldemort, yet she was close to Muggles; she was a Slytherin, yet on the train she didn't side with Malfoy. Harry's little head was about to explode, boiling hotter than water in a kettle.
"This is not something you should be thinking about," Hagrid said loudly, seemingly trying to emphasize to Harry and Ron that he wanted them to stay away from Belvina.
Hagrid continued, "You're only first-year students, and you don't have any electives. What kind of person Professor Black is is none of your business. Just focus on your studies and grow up healthy; Professor Dumbledore will take care of everything else!"
Listen to advice and you'll eat your fill. At this time, Harry was not yet the stubborn person he would be a month later. He nodded in agreement and removed the enigmatic Professor Black from his mind.
To Hagrid's surprise, Harry did stop mentioning Professor Black, but he started paying attention to something else—the trespassing incident that occurred at Gringotts on July 31st!
"Hagrid!" Harry said. "The Gringotts intrusion happened on my birthday. It's quite possible we were there when it happened!"
Merlin!
Hagrid was speechless with frustration. Why did he have to write Harry a note asking the kid to come over?
Like pressing down one gourd only to have another float up, compared to the ambiguous stance of Belvina, the thing hidden in the school is more urgent and should not be known to Harry.
Despite his youth, Harry's mind worked quickly. He immediately thought of the 713 vault he had visited with Hagrid and the dirty little bag.
Hagrid had finally managed to end the conversation about Professor Black, but he was then faced with Harry's barrage of questions about Gringotts and the underground vaults. The Hogwarts gamekeeper was instantly overwhelmed.
Meanwhile, discussions about Belvina were also taking place off campus.
Those who participated in the discussion were all pure-blood wizards, staunch advocates of pure-blood supremacy, and a few were even Death Eaters who had escaped trial by the Ministry of Magic.
Over the past few days, they have proposed many solutions, including but not limited to actions explicitly prohibited by the Ministry of Magic, but these ideas have all been rejected because they are not feasible and may even be counterproductive.
For example, a very clever person proposed a plan to assassinate Belvina.
Let's assume the assassination succeeds. Belvina had just put forward those outrageous ideas when she was assassinated by extremists. Even the dumbest person would know who did it. Moreover, it would make Belvina a hero, which would inspire more half-blood wizards or Muggle-born wizards.
After much discussion, the pure-blood wizards, lacking a clear leader, finally came up with a passive solution—to cover it up.
We must never allow Belvina's outrageous ideas to become known to more people. No information about her should appear in magazines or newspapers. We must not let her corrupt adult wizards.
In addition, they would collectively pressure the Board of Governors, who would then pressure Dumbledore, thereby forcing Belvina to resign from Hogwarts and distance herself from the students.
In this way, Belvina's theory will only be a flash in the pan, quickly forgotten by students, and will not make a ripple.
The only pity is that these people underestimated Dumbledore and even more so Belvina.
If they had invited Lucius Malfoy to participate in the discussion, their proposed solutions would not have been so ridiculous.
