Chapter 395 Gaunt's Old House 2
Belvina was taken aback; she hadn't expected Dumbledore to appear so suddenly.
"Professor Dumbledore!"
Dumbledore seemed not to hear anything and walked straight into the dilapidated Gaunt mansion.
After thinking about it, Belvina decided to follow them and see what was going on.
This dilapidated old house consists of three rooms. The middle, slightly larger room serves as both the kitchen and living room, while two other doors lead to the other rooms.
The living room was dimly lit, with only a sliver of sunlight filtering through the small windows. The room was covered in thick layers of grime, and the dirty walls had long since lost their original color.
Salazar Slytherin's direct descendants, the ancient and pure-blooded Gaunt family, actually live in such a dilapidated place. It's a shame that pure-blood supremacists should come and see for themselves.
Just then, a slow, deliberate sound of footsteps came from the room next to the living room.
Belvina walked over, waved her hand at the dirty wooden door, and the door creaked open.
The slow, deliberate footsteps belonged to Dumbledore, who stood in the center of the hut, an ugly black gemstone ring floating in front of him. "Professor Dumbledore."
Dumbledore was completely oblivious, seemingly not hearing Belvina calling his name at all.
Not right.
Something is definitely not right.
Even the dumbest person could realize that Dumbledore was in trouble.
Belvina could hear Dumbledore's footsteps, but Dumbledore could not hear her voice.
It was as if Dumbledore had fallen into another world, and all he could hear and see were things from that other world.
With this guess in mind, Belvina stepped forward.
She came up to Dumbledore and waved in front of him.
Unmoved, Dumbledore showed no reaction; his eyes were fixed only on the slowly spinning black gemstone ring.
Belvina reached out and poked Dumbledore's arm, but there was still no reaction, as if he had lost all his senses.
Belvina, full of wicked thoughts, suddenly had an idea. She stretched out her thumb and forefinger and pinched the flesh on Dumbledore's arm through his clothes.
Next, apply force with two fingers, pinch and twist!
The intense pain in his arm instantly traveled to Dumbledore's brain, and he finally reacted.
"It seems those spells couldn't stop you, Belvina," Dumbledore said slowly, looking somewhat lost in thought.
"Professor, something's not right with you," Belvina said. "I called you twice, and you didn't respond either time, as if you didn't hear me."
"Is that so? Perhaps I was too focused," Dumbledore said. "I was too focused on dealing with the Horcruxes."
Belvina looked at Dumbledore and the black gemstone ring in turn, but she still felt something was wrong. Dumbledore seemed to be affected by the Horcrux.
"Professor, is this the Gaunt family's heirloom ring?" Belvina asked tentatively. "It's such a waste that it was made into a Horcrux."
As a victim of the Horcrux locket, Belvina knew that Horcruxes were not ordinary magical objects; they possessed sentience and were extremely alluring.
However, the black gemstone ring that was slowly floating in front of her, although she could sense the magical traces on the ring, gave off a very ordinary feeling, and Belvina was not affected in the slightest.
In contrast, the renowned Albus Dumbledore was affected by the Horcruxes, becoming absorbed in his own world and unresponsive to external stimuli.
Even after being forcibly awakened by Belvina, Dumbledore remained absent-minded, his attention entirely focused on the ring.
"Professor Dumbledore, leave it to me," Belvina suggested, while keeping an eye on Dumbledore's expression.
"This ring was—" Dumbledore paused, "This ring was made into a Horcrux, which is an insult to this ring. He had no idea what this ring was."
Dumbledore's answer was completely irrelevant and didn't answer the question at all.
"Isn't this the Gaunt family heirloom ring?" Belvina asked. "Didn't Gaunt say he lost the family heirloom ring?"
"This is indeed a ring passed down from the Gaunt family," Dumbledore said excitedly. "This ring belongs to Peverell."
Peverell, who is that?
It sounded familiar, but Belvina couldn't immediately recall where she had heard it.
However, regardless of whether the ring belongs to Slytherin or Peverell, the immediate priority is to help Dumbledore extricate himself from its influence.
Just then, Dumbledore suddenly raised his hands, as if he wanted to put on the ugly black gemstone ring.
Ding!
A crisp sound.
Clang!
Another crisp sound.
Belvina's spell knocked the floating ring away.
The ugly black gemstone ring hit the wall and then fell to the ground.
However, after the ring, which had been made into a Horcrux, fell to the ground, it rolled back to Dumbledore's feet.
Voldemort's Horcruxes were intended to continue influencing Dumbledore, tempting him to wear the ugly black gemstone ring.
Although she was somewhat confused about the situation, Belvina was determined to stop Voldemort's Horcruxes from achieving their goal and absolutely could not allow Dumbledore to wear the ring.
Belvina reached out and grabbed the front of Dumbledore's robe, pushing him away with all her might.
Unexpectedly, the completely unsuspecting Dumbledore was pushed over by Belvina.
"Albus Dumbledore!"
A somersault and a loud shout jolted Dumbledore awake, like a sudden blow to the head.
"You saved me again," Dumbledore said, still shaken, as he sat on the ground. "Last time it was outside, this time it's inside."
Dumbledore turned his head away, refusing to look at the black gemstone ring.
He continued, "Belvina, who did you see outside the old house?"
"Regulus," Belvina said, "and my parents." As she spoke, she shielded the ring with her body.
Belvina looked into Dumbledore's eyes and said earnestly, "They are the family we miss dearly, but they are dead. There is no magic that can bring someone back to life."
"Yes, there is no magic that can bring someone back to life," Dumbledore said sadly, his head bowed, looking somewhat helpless.
Belvina knew Regulus was an imposter, so she didn't hesitate to slit Regulus's throat.
Dumbledore knew it was fake, but he couldn't be as decisive as Belvina.
"Horregularities can certainly influence people, but someone like you shouldn't be affected this deeply," Belvina said. "What exactly is this ring?"
As soon as the question left her mouth, Belvina suddenly remembered where she had heard of Peverell.
She exclaimed in disbelief, "Peverell! The Peverell brothers, the Deathly Hallows!"
Belvina looked again at the ugly ring on the ground. The ring was large, appeared to be made of gold, was crudely crafted, and had a heavy black stone set in it.
"The Resurrection Stone," Belvina whispered. "Cadmus Peverell's Resurrection Stone."
Magic is already far-fetched, but fairy tales coming to life is even more absurd—the Peverell brothers' Deathly Hallows actually exist.
"That's right, it's Cadmus's Resurrection Stone," Dumbledore said. "If you hold it in your hand and spin it three times, the dead can return to the world of the living."
"I saw my parents and siblings, who did you see?" Belvina asked. "You want to resurrect the people you saw, don't you?"
Dumbledore nodded, the sorrow still lingering on his face.
He said, "Like you, I saw my parents, and Ariana."
Albus Dumbledore's origins have never been a secret.
His father, Percival, died in Azkaban for attacking Muggles; his mother, Kandra, died young; and his sister, Ariana, died young.
Dumbledore's family originally consisted of five people, but in the end only Albus and his brother Aberforth remained.
"You believe in the legend of the three brothers, and you want to wear the ring to resurrect your family," Belvina said. "Professor, you should know Cadmus's fate better than anyone else."
"I know very well that no magic can bring the dead back to life," Dumbledore said, his grief deepening. "I just want to see them one more time."
Dumbledore slowly stood up and continued, "I originally intended to destroy the Horcruxes first, and then put on the ring."
"You never imagined the Horcruxes would have such a profound impact on you," Belvina said, adding that Dumbledore's longing for his family far exceeded her expectations.
"Without your help, it might have taken me a very long time to shake off the Horcrux's influence." Dumbledore dusted himself off. "There's another possibility: I might not be able to shake off the Horcrux's influence at all."
"That's why you asked me to come along," Belvina said, picking up a ring from the ground with her wand. "The Resurrection Stone, this thing is actually real."
Dumbledore turned his head away again, resisting the urge to look at Peverell's ring.
"In my search for the Horcrux, I met many people, and some of them offered me their memories," Dumbledore said. "I saw the ring in Ogden's memories."
"Ogden," Belvina repeated the name. "If I remember correctly, the Ministry of Magic officials attacked by the Gaunt family had this surname."
“That’s right, he was the captain of the Law Enforcement Team at the time,” Dumbledore explained. “Morphin attacked Muggle Tom Riddle, and Ogden came to summon him to the Ministry of Magic for trial.”
Dumbledore looked out the small window and said, "We should go, Belvina. The story can wait. Ogden, Riddle, and the Deathly Hallows. The most important thing now is to destroy the Horcruxes."
With that, Dumbledore led the way out of the room and left the dilapidated Gaunt mansion.
Belvina tucked Peverell's ring into a black silk bag and then walked out of the dilapidated old house of the pure-blood wizards.
