Chapter 412 Better to Die for Your Fellow Daoist Than for Yourself

Lucius Malfoy frowned and remained silent; the Minister of Magic's illness had completely disrupted his plans.

The others sitting around the elegantly decorated long table remained silent; some were panicked, some were anxious, but no one could come up with a solution.

On October 31, 1981, Voldemort lost his powers in Godric's Hollow and disappeared from public view.

Without their leader, the Death Eaters were like headless flies, collapsing and disbanding under the Ministry of Magic's crackdown.

Some resisted stubbornly, either being imprisoned in Azkaban or killed by the Ministry of Magic; others chose to betray, removing their masks and refusing to admit their crimes.

These Death Eaters, who had betrayed Voldemort, believed he was finished and that Voldemort was no longer viable. So they turned to the Ministry of Magic without hesitation, claiming their innocence, ignorance, and that they had been bewitched.

The people sitting in the living room, from the manor owner Lucius Malfoy to the late-arriving Coban Yaxley, all escaped legal punishment by virtue of the Imperius Curse; they had all betrayed their master Voldemort.

For more than a decade, they changed their ways and continued to live a life of luxury, never once having the thought of finding Voldemort, not even a little bit.

Some even regard Harry Potter, the boy who survived the ordeal, as a new icon, believing him to be a more powerful evil sorcerer.

Until the summer of a year ago, when the Black Magic mark was raised on the night of the World Cup finals, the mark on his left forearm became clearer day by day.

These Death Eaters, who had betrayed Voldemort, realized that their master was growing stronger every day and that he would rise again at some point in the future.

The Death Eaters, who had enjoyed a good life for more than a decade, were suddenly thrown into a panic. There was no excitement in their eyes, only an unspeakable fear.

Lucius Malfoy fled immediately upon seeing the Dark Mark in the air; Igor Karkaroff also chose to run away as the mark on his arm became clearer.

They feared Voldemort, and their fear of Voldemort was far greater than that of ordinary people.

Driven by fear, Lucius Malfoy and the others realized they had to do something, they had to take action, in order to win their master's magnanimity and mercy.

So they began to travel around, searching for Voldemort's whereabouts while reuniting their former comrades.

That summer, they used the influence of pure-blood families over the Ministry of Magic to constantly incite Cornelius Fudge to suppress Dumbledore and help Fudge oust his political enemies.

Just when Lucius Malfoy and his men thought their plan had succeeded, Cornelius Fudge suddenly claimed to be ill and refused to leave the palace, a move that came as a complete shock to them.

If Fudge is unable to continue serving as minister, where else can they find such an easily fooled idiot? Their influence over the Ministry of Magic will be greatly diminished.

If hardliners like Black and Burns were to take over as ministers, their plans to control the Ministry of Magic would be thwarted, and they might even face annihilation.

In the lavishly decorated living room, a suffocating silence continued as Lucius Malfoy and the others racked their brains for a solution.

After a long silence, Lucius Malfoy suddenly spoke up, saying, "Gentlemen, do we have any other suitable candidates in the ministry?"

Upon hearing this, the Death Eaters in the living room began a collective brainstorming session, searching for someone who could challenge Burns.

First, this person should ideally be pureblood, and preferably as easy to manipulate as Fudge. Only if all else fails should we consider the Imperius Curse.

Secondly, this person must at least be qualified to compete for the ministerial position. If they don't even have the chance to step into the ring, they will only become a laughing stock and make people laugh their heads off.

"Lucius, you were the one who told us to do everything we could to help that idiot Fudge, and now you want us to find someone else? Where are we supposed to find a suitable candidate to run for minister?"

With a face full of scars and a fierce look, Coban Yaxley said with dissatisfaction, his voice sounding very hoarse and his face even more gloomy.

On the other side of the long table, Avery and Nott exchanged a glance. Although they didn't complain about Malfoy like Yaxley did, a hint of contempt flashed in their eyes.

Crabbe and Goyle, the middle-aged humanoid baboons, looked at Lucius Malfoy, waiting for their boss to come up with a plan.

“Formalist,” Lucius Malfoy said slowly, “then what do you suggest we do? Are we just going to let the minister fall into the hands of Black and Burns?”

Although Lucius Malfoy is not particularly intelligent or capable, he is not the type to blush and stammer at a single criticism.

"You were the one who said you had a deep relationship with Fudge and that you could influence him, which is why we bet our money on that idiot Fudge. But what was the result?"

Coban Yaxley continued his accusations: "Blake only met Fudge once, and Fudge immediately fell ill. It's only a matter of time before he resigns. Your so-called deep friendship is not even worth a single hair on Blake's head."

Lucius Malfoy's face darkened. He knew that Yaxley was unhappy with him, but he didn't expect the other party to say such harsh words.

Fortunately, Nott stepped in to smooth things over once again, preventing Yaxley from continuing to rub salt in Malfoy's wounds.

Everyone present knew that Lucius Malfoy had repeatedly been humiliated by the Black siblings, and he couldn't hold his head up in front of his in-laws at all.

"Let's not dwell on the past, let's focus on the present," Nott said. "You work in the department, do you know anyone suitable?"

"Pierce Sinkness, Deputy Director of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement," Yaxley said. "However, it's almost impossible to make him as stupid as Fudge unless we use the Imperius Curse on him."

The Unforgivable Curse is practically a required course for Death Eaters, who use these three heinous curses without any psychological burden.

"Do you have a chance to get close to him and control him?" Lucius Malfoy asked.

“Of course, I’m confident I can keep him under control,” Yaxley said proudly. “But Lucius, do you have a way to ensure he becomes the new minister?”

A flash of anger crossed Lucius Malfoy's face; he was getting fed up with Yaxley's sarcastic remarks.

"Do you know why I'm late today?" Yaxley continued, seemingly to himself, "Bornes and Black spent a long time alone in the office, and they supposedly had a very pleasant conversation."

The atmosphere around the long table suddenly became heavy. If Burns and Black had made a deal in private, it would be even more difficult to take the ministerial position from them.

Only Crabbe and Gore, who weren't very bright, were still confused and didn't understand why everyone had suddenly become depressed.

"If you ask me," Yaxley said loudly, "the most important thing right now is to find that idiot Fudge, whether he's really sick or faking it, and whether he really wants to resign or not. Keeping him under control is the most important thing."

Between supporting a new minister and retaining the current minister, Coban Yaxley prefers the latter.

First, we need to find a way to help Connelly Fudge withstand the offensive and retain his position as minister. At the same time, we also need to help Sinkness improve his status within the ministry. Even if Fudge ultimately fails to retain his position, Sinkness's chances of winning will be greater.

On the other side of the long table, Avery and Nott exchanged another glance. They both felt that Yaxley's plan was feasible, provided that Lucius Malfoy could find and control Fudge.

"What did Walton say, Cobb? Does he share your opinion?" Avery asked Yaxley.

Both Coban Yaxley and Walton McNeill worked at the Ministry of Magic, so they were best positioned to know what was going on within the ministry.

"Of course, we both think alike," Yaxley said. "If Black and Burns choose to team up, I don't think Sinkness has a chance of becoming the new minister."

As he spoke, Coban Yaxley looked at the silent Lucius Malfoy, his eyes once again showing contempt.

Yaxley continued, "If the Minister falls into the hands of Black or Burns, we'll have no choice but to kill them. The Ministry of Magic absolutely cannot fall into the hands of those two."

Amelia Burns, the head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, has a blood feud with Voldemort and will never compromise with him.

Although Belvina Black was of Muggle lineage, her consistent pro-Muggle attitude suggests that she was not one of Voldemort's allies.

Lucius Malfoy, who was related to her by marriage, repeatedly assured her that Belvina Black was untouchable; she was Dumbledore's woman.

One was an irreconcilable enemy, and the other was one of Dumbledore's men. Whichever of these two took over the Ministry of Magic would be an unacceptable situation for the Death Eaters in the drawing room.

Lucius Malfoy and others planned to give Voldemort a Ministry of Magic that was influenced and controlled by the Death Eaters as a gift to celebrate Voldemort's rebirth, in exchange for Voldemort's leniency towards them.

"Lucius," Yaxley said sharply, looking at Malfoy, "are you confident you can find Cornelius Fudge and bring him under control?"

As soon as he finished speaking, Avery and Nott looked over as well, and everyone was waiting for Malfoy's reply.

"I will find Fudge as soon as possible and use the Imperius Curse on him before things get any worse," Lucius Malfoy said. "The position of Minister for Magic will not be lost."

Under Yaxley's repeated pressure, Malfoy had no choice but to grit his teeth and accept the heavy responsibility of becoming Minister of Control.

At this moment, Lucius Malfoy cursed Yaxley as a bastard in his heart while regretting why he hadn't made a move against Fudge a month ago.

If the Imperishable Curse had been used on Cornelius Fudge a month ago, and the minister had been kept under control, this terrible situation wouldn't have happened today.

On one side, Lucius Malfoy was kicking himself; on the other, Coban Yaxley was completely satisfied.

If Lucius Malfoy successfully completes his plan and indirectly controls the Ministry of Magic through Fudge, it will be a great achievement, and Voldemort will not hold their previous betrayal against him.

If Lucius Malfoy fails to complete his plan and the Ministry of Magic falls into disrepair, the responsibility will fall entirely on Lucius Malfoy, and Voldemort's wrath will naturally fall on him.

This is Coban Yaxley's real plan: to kill Malfoy but not Yaxley.
