Chapter 302 Holding a Grudge

The call was answered quickly after only one ring.

The next second, a male voice with a hint of cynicism came through, accompanied by the crackling sound of electric arcs in the background.

"We've got news so quickly? It seems our 'old friends' haven't disappointed me after all... Jarvis, energy output power, increase by another three percentage points."

Tony Stark's nonchalant voice came through the receiver. The background was the hum of the power core accelerating and the crackling of electrical arcs.

"Just as you suspected, Tony, those idiots couldn't wait any longer and signed a joint letter. They're trying to sabotage your plans from multiple angles, including the media, the public, and politics."

As Jason spoke, in the blink of an eye, he seamlessly transformed into Riley, clad in a black Spider-Man suit, as he rounded a corner. He then launched a web, transporting himself to a rooftop far from the crowd.

"From now on, you can contact District 13 at any time for 'official' support. If necessary, you can also include Nick Fury's black 'egg' in the mix."

"After all, when I asked him for help during the last UN conference, he didn't do anything and I still owe him a favor."

A short, sharp laugh came from the other end of the phone: "Ha! Support? Dear Riley, are you kidding me? To deal with this kind of trash, forget District 13 and S.H.I.E.L.D., I don't even need Osborn to get involved. I can handle it all by myself..."

"I know, Tony, and I believe you can do it."

Before Tony could finish speaking, Riley cut him off succinctly with his self-praise.

After a slight pause, Riley, whose mind was filled with images of the meeting, lowered his voice and continued speaking slowly and deliberately.

"But that would take a lot of time, and now I've changed my mind."

The crackling of the electric current on the other end of the phone seemed to pause for a moment. Faintly, the clanging of metal colliding could also be heard.

Not long after, taking advantage of the weekend holiday, Peter, who was working as Tony's assistant on scientific research, took the phone from Tony, which was specially set to speakerphone, at Tony's winking gesture.

Then he swallowed hard, and asked cautiously, as if hinting at something.

"...Riley, you weren't ambushed again, were you? Or did the horse talisman fail...so you killed them all?"

"No, I won't fall for the same trick twice. I also won't let the heroic image of 'Spider-Man' turn into a bloodthirsty dictator. Don't worry."

Faced with Peter's concern, Riley's expression softened considerably. Even his cold, indifferent, and murderous tone became gentle and warm as he responded.

"I just suddenly felt... that the lampposts of New York City, entering a new era, were missing something—something fitting for the occasion?"

As he spoke, Riley, standing on high ground overlooking the street, scanned the area before his gaze lingering on the ornate, classically designed lampposts lining both sides of the street, symbols of bygone glory. He imagined their cold metallic feel and the image of gas lamps that once hung from their tops, bringing a faint warmth to the night.

Of course, even though Riley tried his best to restrain himself, his voice still sounded harmless.

But as the images in my mind shifted, transforming into a beautiful scene of rows of lanterns hanging from lampposts, lit in public.

The fleeting, soul-chilling murderous intent that had once lingered in the fire escape now pierced through the noise on the other end of the phone like a poisoned ice pick. It traveled with crystal clarity across the airwaves.

After saying this, Riley realized that her emotions were starting to get out of control, so she decisively hung up the phone.

Then he shoots webs and swings around the city to clear his head. While doing so, he sees if any "lucky ones" will reappear in New York City after Spider-Man's few days of silence, and who can have a "chat" with him.
