Chapter 401 The Sky Has Collapsed

Chapter 401 The Sky Has Collapsed

"What kind of monster is that?!"

"Transformers was real? Aliens attacked Earth!"

"Run! Run for your life!!!"

Humans often have an innate fear of the unknown.

Even though the Iron Monarch didn't launch an attack on them, as he approached, many people panicked and turned to run away, triggering a series of chain reactions!

Of course, just like in the online environment of a certain major Eastern country, there are always some pseudo-humans whose brains are born underdeveloped...

There are always a few exceptions to everything...

"Yay! Is this finally my chance to go viral?! Let me think... what should I title my livestream today?... I've got it! I'll write, 'The First Day of Megatron's Invasion of Earth'!"

Instead of running away, a young man wearing a baseball cap excitedly raised his phone to film. He grinned widely, imagining the wonderful scene of receiving so much in gifts after the live stream went viral, and owning a villa and supercars.

Typical internet users, when faced with a sudden dangerous event, are more concerned with how to get some of that traffic.

Especially after a lucky student from a certain Midtown High School livestreamed the Hulk and Black Spider-Man teaming up to fight Super Abomination, becoming the center of attention for a long time and enjoying all sorts of perks, the number of young people envying their treatment and thinking, "I could do that too!" increased exponentially!

"Robots? I knew it! Movies are just documentaries disguised as science fiction! That's so cool—!!"

Meanwhile, his companion also chose not to run away, and similarly raised his phone.

The two even started arguing about how to spend their first pot of gold after earning money from live streaming, and how to split the profits. The latter, in particular, wanted to take a larger share, causing their friendship to quickly turn sour, and they ended up fighting in front of everyone, their faces red and necks bulging!

Fortunately, these insane idiots are ultimately only a minority...

"Quick, take a picture! Take a picture! Post it on YouTube, it'll definitely get tons of views!"

A street photographer, trembling, adjusts the lens focus, trying to capture a high-definition close-up of the Iron Monger in exchange for a hefty reward from his boss.

"Idiot! What are you filming for? Run! It's coming this way!"

"Hey, hey, wait a minute, just a little while longer, I'll be right there...!"

"Wait my ass! I don't want to be a widow at such a young age—!!!"

Fortunately, his wife was not blinded by the promise of easy gains. After figuring out the Iron Monger's route, she cursed and swore, and with all her might, she dragged her silly husband away!

Once someone takes the lead in fleeing, panic will spread like a plague and become uncontrollable.

People pushed and shoved, shouted, fell down and got up again.

A hot dog stand was knocked over, spilling scalding hot sausages and sauce all over the ground.

The street performer's guitar was broken by the crowd, making a piercing sound as the strings snapped.

The tourists' suitcases were left abandoned on the spot, their wheels still spinning helplessly.

At the heart of this chaos, the Iron Monger maintained its steady pace of advance.

Its sensor array scans ahead, constantly calculating the optimal path to avoid those who are too panicked to distinguish themselves and are heading straight for it.

Each step landed precisely in the gaps between the crowd, as if performing an elegant yet complex mechanical ballet.

Unfortunately, no matter how fast or accurate the calculations are, they cannot prevent accidents from happening.

In the chaos, a little girl was separated from her family.

She looked no more than five years old, wearing a pink dress and clutching a brand-new rabbit doll tightly in her arms.

Amidst the jostling of the crowd, she accidentally loosened her grip on her parents' hands, and her small body, like a leaf in a storm, was pushed forward unsteadily.

Then she fell down.

It crashed right in the path of the Iron Monger.

Time seemed to slow down.

The little girl looked up and saw a huge metal foot getting closer and closer.

The thing was bigger than her whole body, with sharp edges and a surface covered with complex hydraulic pipes and armor plates.

A shadow fell over her, and the instinctive fear of death nearly stopped her young heart from beating.

She turned pale with fright, clutching her rabbit doll tightly, and cried out, "Mommy—! Daddy—!"

Tears blurred her vision, and she helplessly closed her eyes, awaiting the excruciating pain of being crushed.

However, the expected pain did not occur.

The metal foot hovered just centimeters above her head.

Then it moved horizontally and landed steadily on the ground thirty centimeters away from her—a precisely calculated position that would neither step on her nor anyone else nearby, nor cause her to be injured by the impact due to the close proximity.

The little girl opened her eyes, trembling.

She saw the huge metal foot and its complex mechanical structure.

Then she looked up, following the legs of the armor upwards, until she saw the three-meter-tall body, the featureless metal face, only the glowing sensor array, like a pair of cold eyes.

But strangely, she didn't find those "eyes" cold.

"Huh? When did you sneak in here? I almost didn't see you..."

Just then, a voice rang out from under the Iron Monger's mask.

It wasn't the noisy roar of mechanical parts in operation. Instead, it was a synthesized electronic voice with a touch of human warmth, like a kind older brother next door asking questions in a gentle voice.

"Did I scare you? Are you hurt anywhere?"

The massive Iron Monger slowly lowered its center of gravity, its hydraulic system emitting a soft hiss.

It knelt on one knee, the entire movement incredibly fluid, its massive three-meter-tall body suddenly lowering to eye level with an adult.

The little girl's crying subsided into sobs, and she stared blankly at the metal giant.

"Sorry, sorry," the voice continued, and you could actually hear the apology in its tone. "I've been locked up for so long, and this is my first time out, I was a little too excited, I'm really sorry..."

As he spoke, the enormous mechanical hand opened out and stretched out in front of the little girl.

The size of her hand was large enough for her to lie completely on. There was no doubt that if she clenched her fist with all her might, she could shatter hard rock. Yet, the movements she made were exceptionally gentle and slow, like a knight waiting for a princess's response.

"Come here, don't be afraid, little one, I won't hurt you."

The little girl hesitated for a moment.

She glanced at the Iron Monger, then looked back at the crowd.

Given her height, it was impossible for her to find her parents in the chaotic crowd.

Then, she made a decision that made all the onlookers gasp in shock.

She reached out her little hand and grasped the mechanical finger.

Then, guided by the Iron Monarch, he stood on tiptoe and jumped, landing hard in the Iron Monarch's palm.

The Iron Monarch's hands slightly clasped together, forming a safe "seat" that gently lifted her up. His other hand reached out, extending his fingers to gently stroke the top of her head.

The pressure was perfectly controlled, neither hurting her nor failing to convey a sense of comfort.

"Sweetie, sweetie, don't cry."

The synthesized voice spoke gently.

"Come on, hold my hand and sit tight... Shall I take you back to your parents now?"
