Chapter 796: Defying Fate
Chapter 796: Defying Fate
After the kiss ended, a thin mist formed in Selena Kensington’s eyes.
Sterling Norwood nuzzled her ear, his voice husky and lingering, "Don’t be nervous, I’m adapting to you..."
While Sterling was adapting to Selena’s presence, Selena was also adjusting to his current form.
Selena did not speak and instead reached out to wrap her arms around his neck.
She placed her head on Sterling’s neck, murmuring softly, "Mm."
The current Sterling indeed made her feel a strong sense of oppression.
If it weren’t for Sterling’s lack of hostility towards her, Selena might have suspected that under the weight of his presence, she would be suffocated.
Once both of them adjusted to each other’s presence, Selena released her arms from around Sterling’s neck.
Sterling also retreated slightly, creating a bit of distance between them.
Looking at Sterling’s current appearance, staring into his strange, crimson eyes, Selena suddenly said, "You won’t have to keep this form forever, right?"
Slight amusement flickered in Sterling’s eyes as he heard this, shaking his head, "No."
Selena finally let out a sigh of relief.
Although Sterling was still as handsome as ever, looking into those bizarre, eerie eyes, especially when they were focused on you, felt as if being watched by a fierce beast.
It made one’s hair stand on end, sending chills down the spine... Thus, Selena was still somewhat frightened.
Selena knew Sterling wouldn’t show this appearance in front of her without reason, so she hurriedly asked, "Did you sense something?"
"...Mm."
Sterling was silent for a few seconds before responding faintly.
Selena’s gaze was fixed tightly on him.
Only to find Sterling frowning after a few seconds of silence.
At the same time, Selena could clearly feel the oppressive aura from him growing heavier.
So heavy that even Selena could no longer ignore it.
"They... are attempting to change the rules of heaven and earth."
Sterling suddenly spoke.
His brows and eyes carried an endless chill, with an unfathomable cold within.
Sterling’s lips curled slightly, with a touch of mockery and mischief.
He was laughing at those people overestimating themselves.
Presuming to bury a God, and now even intending to alter the laws of heaven and earth...
How ridiculous, like a frog in a well!
The rules of heaven and earth cannot be changed so easily! Moreover, the opposition... is merely a thief stealing others’ fate!
Such existence is most despised by the rules of heaven and earth.
The rules of heaven and earth are born from nature, forming an integral whole.
They are pure, and most detest those who would defy them and change fate.
So, what exactly is that person trying to do?
What Sterling was thinking, Selena couldn’t understand, but hearing his words left her internally shaken.
Vincent Sinclair, wanting to change the rules of heaven and earth?!
Why... Could he really... want to revive Esther Jennings?
Yet, defying destiny, what an absurd and bold act this is.
"This..."
Selena opened her mouth timidly, but after one word, she didn’t know how to continue.
Just then, the phone on the bedside table lit up, vibrating.
Selena and Sterling both looked over.
It was Silvester Norwood.
Sterling paused, picked up the phone, then turned on the speaker.
"Speak."
A straightforward, calm voice resonated.
Silvester’s voice carried weight, "Big brother, something’s happened on the inner network."
Upon hearing ’inner network’, Sterling’s originally lazy expression instantly turned sharp.
There was a flicker of strange red light in his eyes, dangerous and mysterious.
"I’ll discuss this later."
After speaking, Sterling hung up the call.
He looked up and met Selena’s worried gaze.
Selena asked, "What’s wrong?"
While Selena didn’t know what the ’inner network’ Silvester mentioned was, the heaviness in his tone was quite unusual. She anticipated it wasn’t something simple.
Sterling adjusted the blanket for Selena, "The inner network is used by the Norwood Family to connect with their Fell Bloodline descendants worldwide."
With this explanation from Sterling, Selena understood.
Silvester had mentioned something happened with the inner network, implying something amongst the Fell Bloodline descendants had occurred.
And it was significant enough to draw the Norwood Family’s attention.
Recalling her earlier reaction...
What has The Godsbane Organization done again?!
Selena didn’t delay further and quickly said to Sterling, "Go deal with it first, don’t worry about me."
"Mm."
Sterling’s voice was deep; he gently helped Selena lie on the bed, "You sleep first, I’ll be back later."
"Okay."
Selena obediently agreed.
Given it involved the inner network, Sterling didn’t linger long. After tucking Selena in, he left the bedroom.
But once Sterling left, Selena found she couldn’t sleep.
Her mind was still preoccupied with previous events.
She initially thought, after retreating from Aethelgard, The Godsbane Organization would lay low.
Considering they lost quite a few people this time in Aethelgard.
Yet, rather than remaining low-key, their actions had only become more bizarre and conspicuous.
So, what was their true purpose for coming to Aethelgard?
To test? Or... to take her away?
Or perhaps both...
Lost in thought, Selena gradually fell asleep.
*
Sterling returned just before dawn.
When he came back, his face was as if covered with a layer of frost, not easily melted away.
But upon seeing Selena sleeping soundly on the bed, his gaze softened slightly.
The lamp in the bedroom cast a warm yellow glow.
Just before Selena slept, she hadn’t turned off the light.
She lay on one side of the bed, her face slightly turned towards Sterling.
In the warm yellow ambiance, her typically refined and sharp features appeared softer.
Her hands lay neatly by her sides, presenting a calm and gentle demeanor.
When Sterling lay beside her, Selena woke up.
Still somewhat drowsy, she reached out to find him.
When she touched Sterling’s arm, she leaned in slightly.
Naturally resting by Sterling’s side.
She yawned slightly, and then looked sleepily at Sterling, "Why did you take so long..."
Though asleep, Selena had no real sense of time, but she could feel Sterling had been gone for quite a while.
Sterling lay beside her, gently wrapping her into his arms.
"Mm, talked for a while longer."
Sterling’s voice was deep, tinged with an almost imperceptible gentleness.
Selena unconsciously snuggled closer in his embrace, her sleepy look fading a little.
"What actually happened?"
