Chapter 651: Sofa talk
Chapter 651: Sofa talk
“Huh?” Rowena and Stacey said in unison before Rowena said, “But you were all for it.”
“That was before I figured out how silly and childish a punishment it is for a crime that wasn’t entirely Adam’s fault,” Lorelie replied.
“Explain,” Stacey stated as Adam listened in with interest.
“First off, did any of us actually discuss children with Adam?” Lorelie asked, to which Stacey and Rowena both shook their heads.
“Then is it really fair to punish him for something that we ourselves didn’t think to ask him? I mean, have either of you told him everything about yourselves? Because I sure haven’t.
Then there is the fact that it might have been a mistake to get the idea of his punishment from Adam’s chat member, Lizzie the true power, considering her and her husband seem to have a rather…. unique relationship.”
“What do you mean by unique?” Adam asked curiously.
“Well, for all those times that Lizzie has told Andrew that he’s sleeping on the sofa, or punished him, has he ever really complained about it?” Lorelie asked.
“Most of the time, he just gives crying emojis or ellipses in chat as a response,” Stacey remarked.
“Exactly, would a prideful man accept that without fighting back in any way?” Lorelie asked.
“Adam didn’t, or are you saying he’s not prideful?” Rowena asked.
Instead of answering, Lorelie looked at Adam and asked, “Babe, care to explain why you didn’t argue back when we told you to sleep on the couch?”
“Err, because I’m not stupid,” Adam replied before adding, “I’m not going to pick a fight with three angry women; I instead planned to discuss it with each of you individually after letting you calm down a little.”
“So why haven’t you spoken about it till now? We’re obviously much calmer,” Stacey asked.
“I haven’t been alone with any of you since then, as we haven’t exactly had the time for it,” Adam replied before continuing, “I mean, first there was the whole Emma being kidnapped thing, then investigating who fired a cruise missile at us, then I collapsed shortly after arriving here, after that was the celebration and the Imperial Down being attacked and finally Lorelie almost being killed.”
“I see your point,” Stacey conceded before asking, “What are your real feelings on the whole couch thing then?”
“That it’s childish and that real couples discuss any problems or concerns they have with their partner's behaviour or attitude,” Adam replied before looking at Rowena and asking, “Are you going to tell us the real reason why you went along with this?”
“What do you mean?” Rowena asked as Stacey and Lorelie looked at them with confusion.
“You're far too mature and experienced not to have realised that it was the incorrect action to banish me to the couch instead of discussing with me the issue at hand,” Adam replied while frowning.
Rowena studied Adam for a few moments before sighing and asking, “How did you know?”
“You’ve been married seven times, not to mention all the relationships you haven’t told me about,” Adam replied before adding, “I can’t be the first man in your life that you’ve argued with.”
“True enough,” Rowena admitted before asking. “You're already aware of why I never entered another relationship after Philip?”
Adam nodded before saying, “Because you were afraid that they would repeat Philip's actions of trying to force you to turn them.”
“That’s correct, so needless to say, I never expected or planned to enter into a relationship with you, doubly so since you were already in a relationship with Stacey,” Rowena continued. “I won’t deny that after spending time with you, I became attracted to you, which is why I was so open with my flirting, though whether I would have eventually succumbed to my attraction to you if I hadn’t tasted and become addicted to your blood is anyone's guess.”
“Oh, please, you totally wanted to get with Adam, we all saw it,” Stacey scoffed.
“Perhaps, but wanting something and actually doing it are two entirely different things,” Rowena replied before turning back to Adam and saying. “I was truly happy when I became your lover and was accepted into the relationship, but I was also afraid, afraid that you would repeat Philip's actions, even after I told you everything that happened. That’s also why after our first night together, I asked Spector what would happen if I were to turn you.”
“What?” Adam, Stacey and Lorelie all said in shock before Stacey asked in concern, “Is that even an option? I mean you’re addicted to Adam’s blood, won’t it stop being pureblood if he were to become Brood and thus cause you to die?”
“That’s what I wanted to know and what I asked Spector; however, it was unable to answer that question,” Rowena replied.
“If being turned could lead to your death, then I would rather find another way to extend my lifespan,” Adam replied.
“I thought you were not interested in immortality?” Rowena asked in surprise.
“That was before we became bound through my blood. I can’t go dying while someone I love needs me to survive,” Adam replied.
Rowena’s eyes moistened as she heard his words before saying happily, “You're like the total opposite of Philip.”
“How so?” Adam asked.
“He went out of his way to try and use my abilities to lengthen his life; on the other hand, you're willing to give up guaranteed eternal life just so that I can live,” Rowena replied while giving Adam a loving smile.
“What’s life worth living if you can’t be with those you love?” Adam asked.
“I’m glad Lorelie brought up this matter. After words like that, I’m not sure I could stop myself from fucking your brains out later,” Rowena replied in a flirtatious tone.
“Am I to take it that we are in agreement then?” Lorelie asked.
“Yes,” The others replied before Adam looked at Rowena again and asked, “So you only went along with the idea because you feared I would one day beg you to turn me?”
“Indeed, I believe the best way to prevent that was to make it apparent to you early in our relationship who was in charge,” Rowena replied before sighing and saying, “Only now do I realise how foolish I was, I should have trusted you more, my love.”
“You were only protecting yourself from future heartbreak, which is understandable,” Adam replied before asking, “Out of curiosity, how many people can a Brood turn? Is there even a set number?”
“There isn’t,” Rowena replied before adding, “We’re just extremely cautious about doing it as I’ve spoken about in the past.”
As Rowena finished speaking, Lorelie suddenly yawned, attracting the others' attention before Stacey smiled and said, “Why don’t we let you get some rest? Your body is probably still tired after recovering from the injury you sustained.”
“I think that’s a good idea,” Lorelie said in agreement as she snuggled back under the covers of her medical bed.
“Contact us through the comm if you need anything,” Adam said before he, Stacey and Rowena left the medical bay.
“Wish I could fuck your brains out,” Lorelie mumbled before closing her eyes.
Somewhere within the known universe, a space station floated within the centre of a dense nebula.
A man wearing clothes that were almost entirely white walked along one of the space station's corridors until he reached a door that slid open with a slight hiss before closing again after he passed through it.
After passing through the door, the man found himself in a large circular room and at the very centre of the room was a raised platform where an individual hidden in shadows sat in a large, impressive-looking chair, while hundreds of holographic screens rotated around them.
“Is there something you need, Sub-leader White?” The shadowed individual asked, and as they spoke their voice came in a way that made it impossible to tell their gender.
“We have lost contact with Mr Mysterious Seventeen, Supreme Leader,” Sub-leader White replied.
“Lost contact?” The Supreme Leader asked.
“They have failed to perform their scheduled check-in and every attempt to contact them has failed,” Sub-leader White explained.
“I’m assuming this isn’t a technical malfunction?” The Supreme Leader asked.
“No, every other Mr Mysterious has checked in on schedule,” Sub-leader White replied.
“Then we should assume that Mr Mysterious Seventeen has abandoned us,” The Supreme Leader replied.
“The purge of our people in the Sandanar Galaxy?” The Sub-leader White asked.
“Exactly,” The Supreme Leader replied before adding, “They knew that I would not allow such a momentous failure to go unpunished, especially after all the time, credits and manpower we put into claiming control of the Sandanar Galaxy.”
“I still don’t understand how the Terrans found every single one of our people; it seems impossible,” Sub-leader White remarked.
“I myself am unsure of that and find it very concerning,” The Supreme Leader replied before ordering, “Put a bounty out on Mr Mysterious Seventeen, I need to decide on their replacement.”
“Yes, Supreme Leader.”
