Chapter 168 Non-existence
The summer vacation of 1993 was slowly slipping away, and I desperately needed to recharge.
Harry didn't want to top up his account; he couldn't wait to get back to Hogwarts. He missed Ron and Hermione, and he missed Quidditch matches.
Harry, as a student, wasn't opposed to going back to school at all, but Belvina, as a professor, wished the holiday could be extended. She really wanted to pay for the extended holiday and didn't want to go back to work at all.
On the last night of summer vacation, Belvina sat alone in the yard, the roaring campfire illuminating her beautiful face, and the wheat juice beside her was changed from iced to room temperature.
His face, flushed red by the firelight, was filled with reluctance to go to work and worry about the safety of Hogwarts, as Dementors were about to move in.
Sirius Black has been out of prison for almost a month, and the Ministry of Magic has made no progress in his pursuit. The only thing the Ministry is certain of is that Black is going to Hogwarts.
Therefore, the Ministry of Magic shifted its focus to Hogwarts and the surrounding area, but they still found nothing and didn't even see a trace of Black.
Just then, whether it was Cornelius Fudge's own sudden inspiration or some brilliant idea that led him to suggest it, the minister actually used Dementors to hunt down Sirius Black.
Not only that, Cornelius Fudge also sent Dementors to Hogwarts and Hogsmeade to wait for them to come to him.
Belvina was vehemently opposed to using Dementors to hunt Sirius Black. Putting Dementors at Hogwarts was like sending a starving person to the dining hall.
Belvina also approached Fudge, wanting to discuss the Dementors with the minister.
But Cornelius Fudge was a fool who was determined to use the Dementors, even at the cost of offending Dumbledore.
It is said that Dumbledore and Fudge even had a fight about this, and someone saw Dumbledore leave the minister's office very unhappy.
Belvina didn't know if the head professor and the head wizard had argued; all she knew was that Dumbledore had compromised, and the wardens of Azkaban had become the wardens of Hogwarts.
The arrival of Dementors at Hogwarts proves once again that there are actually five Hogwarts houses.
Just as Belvina was internally berating Dumbledore for being incompetent and Fudge for being a pig-brain, Harry's voice rang out behind her.
Harry exclaimed excitedly, "Belvina! Did you give me that model of galactic activity?"
That's nonsense. Marius would never go to Diagon Alley. House-elves can't afford it. The only person who could afford a model of a galaxy activity is Belvina.
"Consider it a graduation gift from summer camp," Belvina said listlessly. She wasn't in the mood to talk; the thought of Hogwarts being surrounded by Dementors was just awful.
"Oh, right, there's something else I'd like to ask you for a favor," Harry suddenly became hesitant. "Could you sign the permission form for me? My aunt and uncle haven't signed it for the permission to go to Hogsmeade."
In addition to the new elective courses, third-year students at Hogwarts are also allowed to visit Hogsmeade, provided they have permission and a signature from their parents or guardians.
"Sure, I can sign it for you, but it might not be useful," Belvina said absentmindedly. "After all, I'm not your guardian, and Professor McGonagall might not recognize it."
.
Even if Harry gets the Dursleys' signed permission, Professor McGonagall might not want him to go to Hogsmeade. Everyone believes that Sirius Black escaped because of Harry, and he might want to kill Harry.
It was only then that Harry belatedly realized that Belvina's mood was off, and he temporarily put aside his resentment at not being able to go to Hogsmeade.
"You're unhappy," Harry said confidently. "You're having a hard time, I can sense it."
With that, Harry dragged over a chair and sat down next to Belvina. He continued, "I'm not good at comforting people, but you can use me as a confidante."
Harry imagined that Belvina must be feeling terrible about her brother being hunted down by the Ministry of Magic, especially since she believed deep down that her brother was innocent.
"Do you know about Dementors?" Belvina asked.
"I don't know," Harry answered readily, without even thinking about it.
"Do you know which way the school library door faces?" Belvina asked again.
"I know that—" Harry shut his mouth. He realized that Belvina was mocking him, and he did indeed lack understanding of wizarding society.
Belvina thought for a moment and said, "Dementors are the guards of Azkaban, a kind of non-being—ah, you certainly don't know what a non-being is."
Belvina didn't even bother to ask anymore; no matter what question she asked, Harry's answer was mostly "I don't know."
She continued, "Non-existence is also known as non-human paranormal phenomena. Non-existence transcends life and death; it is neither born nor dies. Peeves is classified as non-existence."
Peeves is the mischievous elf of Hogwarts, and it is said to have existed since the school's founding, or rather, it was born along with the entire building.
"Dementors aren't real beings, they're prison guards, so what?" Harry asked. "Are they connected to the school, or to Sirius?"
"It's all related," Belvina said. "The Dementors were sent to Hogwarts to capture Sirius because everyone believed that Sirius would come to the school to find you and kill you."
As she spoke, Belvina ran her thumb across her neck, making a throat-slitting motion.
Harry showed no fear. Instead, he straightened his back and said loudly, "I will not be killed easily. Hogwarts is the safest place in the world, and I trust your judgment."
"You've missed the point. The Dementors are the real problem," Belvina said helplessly. "Dementors arise from human emotions and feed on them. They suck human happiness, and anyone who gets close to them will feel depressed and hopeless."
Belvina paused for a moment, then continued, "Because of the existence of Dementors, most of the prisoners imprisoned in Azkaban went insane after a few weeks. For the prisoners there, death was a relief."
As he listened to Belvina's account, Harry fell silent. He couldn't imagine the horrors of Azkaban, but he finally understood why people were so afraid of Azkaban's guards.
Also, Harry understood why Belvina was unhappy. She was probably worried that Sirius would also go insane, or that the Dementors would threaten the safety of the entire school.
Just as Harry was lost in thought, Belvina spoke up: "I should have taught you the Patronus Charm. Dementors don't die, but they can be banished."
"Can't we teach it now?" Harry asked. "Is it difficult to learn?"
During the summer holidays, Belvina taught Harry some practical spells, such as the Stunning Charm, the Shattering Charm, and the Ironclad Charm. Harry could learn most of these spells after seeing them only once.
"It's not that it's difficult, it's extremely difficult. A wizard who can summon a physical guardian deity can even be recommended as a Wizengamo," Belvina said. "If you can learn it in one night, I'll give you a fire crossbow."
The reason Belvina extended an olive branch to Felix Ferguson was because Felix was able to summon a complete Guardian.
After thinking about the wooden sign on the Firebolt that said "Price Negotiable," even if Harry was stubborn, he wouldn't dare to claim that he could learn the Patronus Charm in one night.
Most importantly, learning the Guardian Charm and using the Guardian Charm are two different things.
Even if Harry can learn the Patronus Charm in a short time, it remains to be seen whether he will be able to summon his Patronus when he actually faces a Dementor.
Belvina stood up and said, "Hopefully I'm overthinking it. Maybe the Dementors will just stay put outside the school. But I'll still teach you the Patronus Charm after school starts. Now, I can demonstrate it for you."
With that, Belvina took out her wand and waved her arm dramatically, drawing a circle above her head with the acacia wand.
She chanted, "Call upon God for protection!"
A dazzling silver cow cat appeared instantly, its physical guardian angel running around Belvina before finally leaping onto her shoulder.
"You just heard the incantation, Patronus Charm," Belvina continued. "A Patronus is a positive force."
When you focus your mind on a pleasant moment, positive energy will emerge, and your guardian angel will respond to your call.
Harry took out his wand, closed his eyes, and carefully recalled the first time he learned he was a wizard, the first time he rode a flying broomstick, and shouted, "Palmtops of Protection!"
A wisp of silvery-white gas emerged from the tip of Harry's wand. The gas failed to materialize, not even forming a barrier, and quickly dissipated.
"Protect the Gods!"
Harry tried again, but the result was the same; only a wisp of silvery-white gas appeared.
"Does this count as a reaction?" Harry asked.
"Why not?" Belvina offered a perfunctory consolation.
Sure enough, even with the protagonist's halo, Harry couldn't summon his Patronus on his first try.
Belvina suddenly felt a terrible headache. Not only did she have to go to work, but she also had to work overtime without pay. She had to come up with a solution to the problem of excessively long working hours as soon as possible!
