Chapter 209 Remus Lupin, the Peacemaker
Chapter 209 Remus Lupin, the Peacemaker
Chapter 209 Remus Lupin, the Peacemaker
As expected of good brothers and old friends, they came up with exactly the same solution.
Lu Ping looked troubled and slowly said, "The Marauder's Map is no longer with Filch; I don't know where it went."
"What?!" Sirius exclaimed in surprise, "That idiot Filch lost the map!"
Sirius Black was so shocked that he almost performed a medical miracle, nearly standing up on his two broken legs.
"Wait, what is this Marauder's Map you're talking about?" Belvina asked疑惑地, she had never heard of it before.
"Remember when I said I was going to get my old school stuff back from Filch?" Lupin explained. "I was talking about the Marauder's Map."
A smug look appeared on Sirius's pale face; Marauder's Map was the pinnacle of their student days.
"The Marauder's Map is a map of Hogwarts, containing all the secrets of the school as we know them," Lupin continued. "Most importantly, the map can display the name of everyone in the school in real time, as well as their location."
Sirius couldn't hide his smugness. He raised his head and said, "Everyone, no one can escape the Marauder's Map. Pfft, you've never seen anything like it, Belvina."
"Ouch! Belvina, you crazy woman!" Sirius cried out again.
That's right, Belvina kicked Sirius again, this time in his broken leg.
This is probably why Sirius's broken leg has not healed for so long; even the best healing potion can't withstand repeated kicks and beatings.
Belvina, the two-legged black man with a tumor, said cruelly and mercilessly, "The map is missing, isn't it? It's not with Filch; it might have been lost or stolen."
"Yes, we can't find it," Lupin said, scratching his head. "We can only try to catch mice in the castle like blind men."
Sirius Black slammed his fist on the armchair in anger and said, "That idiot Filch! That damned Peter! If I find him, I'll kill him!"
If the Marauder's Map still exists, it can be used to locate Peter Pettigrew, which has the ability to be monitored around the clock, and bring him to justice.
"If you kill him, I'll kill you," Belvina said calmly. "All we need to do is catch him and put him on trial. No one can stand in our way, including you, Sirius."
"Then what do you suggest we do? Where are we going to catch the mouse?" said Sirius. "Who knows which mouse hole he's hiding in! Damn it!"
"If you hadn't run away from Azkaban, would things be like this now?" Belvina said. "If you had told me sooner that he was at Hogwarts, he would have been caught long ago."
Belvina stood up again and said fiercely, "If that hole under your nose doesn't work, I'll sew it up for you right now!"
The biggest conflict between the Black siblings has never been Sirius's prison break, but rather his acting on his own initiative. If he had consulted with Belvina beforehand, things wouldn't have escalated to this point.
"I can't wait that long!" Sirius exclaimed. "Even if I ask Fudge to see you, will he really relay my request?"
Sirius angrily slapped the makeshift wheelchair beneath him, then said, "What if Fudge doesn't relay the message? Who knows when you'll be going to Azkaban next?"
"I—" Belvina wanted to retort. Sirius was really giving her a hard time, daring to talk back to her!
"What do you mean, 'what do you mean, 'what do you mean, 'what do you mean, 'what do you mean, 'what do you mean, 'what do you mean, ' I continued to attack him,' ignoring the fact that Peter was alive.' "
"You're talking nonsense!" Belvina stepped forward. "You haven't even tried! How do you know Connelly won't relay the message? How do you know I won't go to Azkaban? Have you even tried?"
Despite his limited mobility, Sirius Black showed no signs of backing down, rolling up his sleeves as if he intended to fight Belvina while seated in his makeshift wheelchair.
"I can't wait that long! If Fudge isn't willing to relay the message, he's just wasting my time!" Sirius shouted. "I must catch Peter! James and Lily's revenge must be taken!"
"You're talking nonsense! We've waited twelve years, and these last few months are all it takes." Belvina retorted sharply, "Now that you've escaped, where's Peter Pettigrew? Did you catch him?"
Belvina pointed at Sirius's nose and continued, "You've been a troublemaker since you were a kid, and you haven't improved at all after twelve years in Azkaban! Also, why didn't you come looking for me after you ran away? Didn't I know you were an Animagus? Couldn't you recognize my face?!"
Only then did Sirius's momentum finally subside, and he stopped arguing loudly.
Lupin seized the opportunity to smooth things over, as he hadn't been able to get a word in edgewise during the previous incident.
"Calm down, everyone. Can't we talk this out?" Remus Lupin, the peacemaker, said. "Leave Belvina's matter to me. You can rest for a bit."
Lu Ping was afraid that the brother and sister would start arguing again, and that things would probably get out of hand beyond what he could handle in a wheelchair.
As he spoke, Lupin pulled Belvina back to sit down and poured her a cup of tea to calm her down.
Then Lupin looked at Sirius and said, "You too, why did you have to act on your own? Why couldn't you come find us? It's much better for the three of us to act together than for you to go alone."
In truth, Lupin harbored resentment towards Sirius Black. He hadn't been told about the change of the Secret Service back then, and now he still hadn't been told about Peter Pettigrew. How could Lupin not feel a single trace of resentment?
It was only because that person was Sirius that Lupin was willing to resolve his resentment on his own.
"Say something, hurry up," Lupin said, secretly gesturing to Sirius to quickly back down; as long as he said something conciliatory, the matter would be over.
Sirius stubbornly turned his head away, refusing to accept the look Lupin was giving him.
Even though he knew in his heart that he was in the wrong, Sirius was still unwilling to admit defeat.
"I'm being nice to you again, your leg doesn't hurt anymore, right!"
Belvina, who had just sat down, stood up again. The more she looked at Sirius, the angrier she became. He was the one who caused all the mess, and now he was putting on that "I'd rather die than submit" act. He was just asking for a beating!
Seeing his hot-tempered sister come back to life, Lupin quickly stepped forward to stop her, wrapping his arms around Belvina's waist to prevent her from charging forward.
As Lupin dragged Belvina along, he said with difficulty, "It's almost a month old, and I haven't been feeling well lately."
This isn't using werewolves as a threat; it's a show of weakness.
After spending some time with her, Lupin discovered that Belvina was someone who responded better to gentle persuasion than force; anyone who went against her head was bound to suffer the consequences.
Sure enough, before Lupin could even finish his sentence, he could clearly feel that Belvina had stopped exerting force and allowed Lupin to push her back into the armchair.
However, Belvina's eyes were still fiercely scrutinizing Sirius, as if she were choosing the right spot to strike.
At this moment, Sirius finally spoke slowly.
He muttered in a low voice, "I don't want to cause you any more trouble. You've had a tough time all these years on your own."
Sirius sighed, then said, "After leaving Magnolia Crescent Street, I went to Grimmauld Place."
Someone is watching you; I even overheard their conversation.
"What did you say?" Belvina asked. "You went back to Grimmauld Place?"
Lupin was also taken aback. So Sirius had gone to see Belvina, but why hadn't he shown up to meet her?
"I went to Grimmauld Place, intending to test you first before deciding whether to ask for your help," Sirius said in a low voice. "But there were two groups of people watching you there. One group was watching Number Twelve, and the other group was keeping a close eye on your every move."
Belvina thought back carefully and realized that when she was walking Carson Jeffrey and the others, she hadn't noticed the black dog following them.
"I didn't follow you. On Magnolia Crescent Street, I thought you had already spotted me, so I didn't dare get too close," Sirius explained. "Those people clearly wanted to cause you trouble and were trying to exploit our relationship."
Judging from his past actions, Sirius was not a good older brother, neither to Belvina nor to Regulus.
But after confirming that someone was monitoring and tailing Belvina, Sirius Black tried to protect her in his own way, even though his methods caused more unnecessary trouble.
"A Hogwarts professor meeting with her fugitive brother in private will definitely make the front page of tomorrow's newspapers." Sirius let out a loud laugh, seemingly laughing at his own fugitive status, or perhaps at everyone else.
Lupin asked in a low voice, "So that's why you didn't show up to meet us, but instead left London and headed north?"
Sirius nodded and said, "I can't stay too long. I must head north as soon as possible and get back to Hogwarts before school starts."
"Why didn't you come to see me after school started?" Belvina asked. "Don't give me that nonsense about being worried about Dementors. You managed to break into the castle on Halloween."
Sirius sighed again and said, "I don't want to cause you any more trouble. I want to deal with Peter by myself, without bothering anyone. After Halloween, the Dementors left, the Aurors came, and I heard your name again while they were chatting."
Clearly, what Sirius overheard on both occasions was not good news, otherwise he wouldn't have changed his mind.
"You're so self-righteous," Belvina said. "Ever since the day you ran away from home, you've caused me countless problems."
Belvina paused for a moment, then continued, "It's not just me, but also those family members you don't consider family, Mom, Dad, and Regulus. You've caused trouble for everyone."
"They're all Voldemort's followers, and Regulus even joined the Death Eaters," Sirius said. "I dare say..."
Mrs. Blake must be so proud!
Although Lupin thought Sirius's words were quite irritating, he didn't think there was anything wrong with them, since Sirius was telling the truth.
Belvina indeed showed no intention of acting out; she simply said something calmly that neither Sirius nor Lupin could understand.
She said, "Regulus Arcturus Black was the bravest Slytherin I ever met. His bravery was beyond your wildest imagination."
